Young Living Sacred Frankincense and Breast Cancer Pub Med Study Results

On October 7, 2011 I posted a video with Dr. Mahmoud Suhail describing results from cancer studies using Boswellia Sacra (Sacred Frankincense) on cancer.  See this link for the video.  The results are amazing and now there is a Pub Med study reporting those findings.  Click here if you would like to read the study.  Below are the conclusions.

"Similar to our previous observations in human bladder cancer cells, Boswellia sacra essential oil induces breast cancer cell-specific cytotoxicity. Suppression of cellular network formation and disruption of spheroid development of breast cancer cells by Boswellia sacra essential oil suggest that the essential oil may be effective for treating advanced breast cancer. Consistently, the essential oil represses signaling pathways and cell cycle regulators that have been proposed as therapeutic targets for breast cancer. Future pre-clinical and clinical studies are urgently needed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of Boswellia sacra essential oil as a therapeutic agent for treating breast cancer."

Amazing, right?!  What Bosellia Sacra does is kill cancer cells, what it does not do is kill healthy cells!  That is exactly what medicine should do.  Simple I know, but true.  Last October I wrote a post, "Breast Health Awareness Month"  have a look for more ideas on natural cancer prevention with tips from Dr. Christiane Northrup, Dr. Andrew Weil, and Vicki Opfer, a Young Living Crown Diamond.

Dr. H. K. Lin who was a part of this study as well as others on frankincense and cancer has suggested that taking frankincense as a preventative would be a good idea.  I personally use frankincense daily.  If I had a history of cancer in my family it would be a definite.  Why wait until it’s too late?

A new year is just around the corner.  Make it a healthy & happy one and get started with Young Living today.  So many different options to choose from too!  If you want to jump in (the best way) then start with the essential oil starter kit.  The kit includes one 5 ml bottle of frankincense as well as eight other delicious and amazing oils.  If you would rather start with a toe in the water then you could try one or two oils like lavender or sacred frankincense.  Go here to order. Feel free to contact me at younglivinglife@gmail.com (younglivinglife at gmail dot com) if you have any questions.

Dr. Mahmoud Suhail on Frankincense

Below is a new video from Young Living that features Dr. Mahmoud Suhail discussing  his current research using Boswellia Sacra.  Young Living is the only essential oil company that bottles Boswellia Sacra (as Sacred Frankincense).

About halfway through Dr. Suhail cites two different cancer cases from pre-clinical trials happening in Oman and Northern Africa.  The results are very exciting.  In one case the carcinoembryonic antigen was 210.  A reading of 10-20 is high (mostly likely that you would have cancer).  A reading of more than 20 would indicate metastases for certain.  Carcinoembryonic antigen went from 210 -18 in less than 21 days and the primary tumor disappeared in an additional 3-4 weeks!   So many people are affected by cancer.  Please watch this video and share it with others.

If I say strep throat, you say…….

antibiotics, right?  Isn’t that what’s normally used to treat strep?  I know from experience that by not treating strep, complications can arise so it cannot go unattended.  Recently, I was having a busy week with a busy weekend coming up.  I woke up on Thursday with a bit of a sore throat and an achy head.  Thinking that it was allergies, I used some lavender by filling capsules and ingesting them.  The lavender helped a bit with the sinus issues but my throat and head were still bothering me.  The next day it was worse and, not wanting to admit that I was sick, I tried to brush it off.  I was determined not to let this, what ever it was, ruin my plans for the weekend.  By late afternoon, I began to realize that I did not have a choice.  I had a rash, I was tired, my throat hurt, my head hurt and I had a fever.  I was sick – Ugh!  Out the window went my weekend plans and into bed I went.

Strep is a bacterial infection.  I did not know that I had strep but I knew that my oils would help.  Essential oils have strong antibacterial (and antiviral) properties so I used a combination of oils which I applied on my throat and on my head.  I also diffused various oils and ingested them.  (If you have read any of my other posts, sorry for the repeat but….. ) I only recommend using and ingesting Young Living oils.  I say this over and over because it is really important for people to know that essential oils are not created equally.  It is important to know your supplier and their manufacturing practices.  You can see my “Why choose Young Living Oils?” page for more information about the quality of Young Living oils.

Please note that I am not a medical doctor and I am not prescribing a way to cure strep.  This is just what worked for me.

Here are my golden rules when using essential oils:

  1. Use what you have.  I used what I had on hand which was thieves, frankincense, melrose, panaway and a few others.  If I had oregano I would have used that as well.
  2. More is more (at least that is my philosophy with oils).  Throw everything you can at an illness as soon as you can.  I waited a bit too long to get started.  Next time I’m showing no mercy!
Thieves is your very best friend when you are sick or when you think you might be getting sick.  This is the blend you always want to have on hand.  I gargled with thieves, I diffused it, rubbed it on my throat and I ingested it.  If you want to make your own home remedy kit, this oil should be at the top of the list.  Actually, all the oils in the Everyday Oil Kit would make the list but if I had to narrow it down to just a few, thieves would be the chosen one.  Thieves contains clove (used by the dental industry for years to numb pain), cinnamon, rosemary & lemon.  It’s a highly antiviral, antibacterial blend.  Don’t even hesitate – just get it and, this is key, USE IT.  A friend of mine has a gland issue every so often that she regularly treated with a trip to the Dr. and a prescription of antibiotics.  After learning about thieves, I gave her a bottle which she quickly put in the back of a drawer (probably thinking it would never get used).  Months later, when her glands were acting up she dug it out and used it because she didn’t want to deal with being sick.  She was in the middle of a very important project and did not have the time to go to the doctor and then wait for the antibiotics to kick in.  Much to her surprise thieves did the trick!  You can use the link to see her testimonial.
I also used frankincense to help boost my immune system.  I put a few drops of thieves and a few drops of frankincense together in a capsule with a drop of extra virgin olive oil which I took 3-4 times per day.
Melrose is also very good for sore throats.  It has melaleuca alternifolia (tea tree) and rosemary.  I gargled with melrose as well as used it on my neck.
Diffusing is really helpful when you want to make sure you don’t share what you have with other family members.  By diffusing thieves at night, I was able to inhale the oil while I slept.  Diffusing thieves also kills airborne germs.  On a side note, I love the Therapro diffuser, by far the best diffuser I have ever owned!  What’s even better is when you buy a Therapro from Young Living, you get a bottle of Thieves free – awesome!!!!!!  It is great to use a diffuser to scent your home but when you are sick or when you want to stop something before it gets bigger a diffuser is imperative.  When my kids look a bit rundown I add a bit of thieves to the diffuser and turn it on when they are watching t.v.  And if they are sick they get it in their room at night.  It always helps and it really is an important tool when using essential oils.

Of course, I got plenty of rest and drank lots of water.  I also took lots and lots of vitamin c as well as vitamin D, omega blues, Ningxia Red, and Life 5 probiotics.  The best part of having therapeutic oils on hand is that you don’t have to wait to go to a doctor in order to feel better.  When I realized I was sick early Friday evening, it was not a great time to see a doctor but I was still able to help myself start to feel better over the weekend.

Unfortunately, we can’t just run out to the store if we are sick and pick up a bottle of pure, therapeutic grade essential oil.  To find the best oils you have to go to the internet.  To find the very best, from a company  that is dedicated to quality and that has a large variety of singles and blends as well as personal care products and supplements then you have to order from Young Living.  If you wanted a good start for home remedies, my first choice would be the Everyday Oils Kit.  See my 3 part post starting with “A Natural Apothecary with Young Living Oils – Part I”.  The oils in that kit can be used for fevers, headaches, muscle pain, allergies, bug bites, bruises, burns, stress, sore throat, and as a sleep aid.  And those are just some of the uses for the oils.

A Natural Apothecary with Young Living Oils – Part III

This is Part III of how to use Young Living oils every day as a natural apothecary.  These amazing oils can be used to relieve pain, to reduce stress or depression, or to fight colds, to name just a few of the many benefits.  Better quality oils generate more therapeutic effects.  If you use an oil of lesser quality, it might have little to no effect at all.  This isn’t because essential oils aren’t beneficial, it’s because that particular oil has little to no therapeutic value.  As with so many products, quality makes a difference.  For my family, I want the very best essential oil that I can find.

If you have not read Part I or Part II please read those as well.  Once again, when I suggest ingesting an oil I am only talking about Young Living essential oils.  I personally would never ingest any other oil and I would never recommend doing so with any other oil.

Lemon – This is such an amazing oil.  Can you think of any  substance that can eat through styrofoam with just one drop and also be safely used on an infant?  I certainly can’t.  Here is a fun thing to do with your kids – one drop of YL lemon oil on a styrofoam cup.  Watch as it instantly begins to eat away at the chemicals in the cup.  It’s pretty cool.  It makes me think about all those uninvited chemicals that are floating around in my body and I wonder (and hope) that when I add some lemon to my water or on my skin it is able to eat up all those unwanted invaders.  I really hope so.  Lemon oil gives a boost to our immune systems and is gentle enough for infants and young children.  It’s also part of my anti-wrinkle, brighten up my skin bed time routine (see the recipe under Frankincense below).  It is a photosensitive oil so use on areas that are not exposed to direct sunlight (like the bottom of the feet) if you are going outside after applying.  Here is a link to a PubMed abstract about D-limonene, which is found in lemon oil, and it’s clinical applications.

  • I like to add  a few drops to my water bottle for taste and so that I get a nice dose of limonene, an antitumoral that has been shown to not only inhibit tumor growth but to regress it as well.
  • Permanent marker on your walls?  Not a match for lemon oil.  Also works on sticky residues as well.
  • Massage into the feet for an immune boost if you are sick or feel like you might be coming down with something.  Can be used on infants, children or adults.

Purification – This is such a handy oil to have around the house.  It is awesome at deodorizing unwanted smells like my dogs when they are in need of a bath or when, on the very rare occasion,  I forget my laundry in the washing machine for a day too long.  My favorite ways for using this oil are…

  • A few drops in a spray bottle with water.  I use it in the bathrooms, on the dogs beds, even on the dogs themselves!
  • As a bug repellent, use the same spray bottle and spray clothes, skin or dogs to repel bugs.  Also use directly, undiluted,  on a bug bite.
  • A few drops on a cotton ball and vacuum up and you will deodorize your rooms as you clean them!
  • Use to clean cuts & scrapes.

Frankincense - I love Frankincense (ok, I love them all)!  At first I was not that  enamored with this oil when I got it.  But it has certainly grown on me.  I love using it at night before bed on my face.   It is a great oil for meditation or prayer and has shown in numerous studies it’s ability to shut down cancer cells without harming healthy cells ( genius!).  For links to that study and a lot more information about this incredible oil please see my post, “The Awesome Power of Frankincense”. Frankincense supports the immune system, is an anti-tumoral and is also great for skin.

  • Anti -wrinkle routine:  One drop lemon – use only at night, brightens skin (and lightens sun spots).  One drop frankincense & one drop lavender.  I put them on one by one.   As our skin cells take at least 30 days to regenerate do this at night for at least that amount of time.  I have personally seen improvement in less time though.
  • If you feel sick this oil can be taken internally, diffused or applied right on area of concern.  If you take internally, start with 3 drops in a double oo capsule.
  • Use one drop directly on warts or moles.  Repeat as often as needed until the desired effect has been achieved.

I hope you have enjoyed this three part series.  I have just touched on some of the many, many uses for these oils.  All of the oils in this three part series can be found in the Everyday Oils kit.  It is an awesome kit to have whether you are new to oils or have been using them for years.  The small bottles are perfect to keep in your bag or are great to travel with.  I love sharing these oils and I know that once you try them you will notice the difference.  Please contact me if you have any questions about any Young Living oils or products.

The Awesome Power of Frankincense Oil

I am sure it doesn’t come as a surprise to anyone that I love essential oils.  I love them because they smell good, I love them because I get results fast.  I love that my kids love them and that they ask for them when they are hurt or sick.  What I also love about essential oils, is that they are about hope.

Frankincense has been a part of human history for thousands of years.  It is even mentioned in the Ebers Papyrus, the oldest known medical record and dates from the sixteenth century B.C.  Ancient Egyptians listed frankincense in hundreds of recipes and prescriptions.  Frankincense was once considered more valuable than gold, was often stolen from Egyptian tombs (instead of real gold) and was used to treat every conceivable ill.

When I started looking for information on essential oils, one of the first articles I came upon was this one from the BBC News entitled “Frankincense:  Could it be a cure for cancer?.  I remember feeling so excited after reading the article.  Just imagine if cancer could be treated with an essential oil instead of chemo?    The studies show that frankincense basically shuts down cancer cells without doing any harm to healthy cells!  The article mentions Dr. Mahmoud Suhail.  He is an immunologist who is studying frankincense for the answers about what it is in the oil that causes the cancer to react in such a way.  I actually met Dr. Suhail at the Young Living Farm this past June.  Dr. Suhail talked about his research and about how uncommon cancer is in Oman, where he has a medical practice.  He sees about 1 cancer patient per year!  He believes that using frankincense has contributed to the low cancer rate in Oman.  The Omanis will drop a piece of resin in water to soak overnight and will consume it in the morning.  They also burn the resin on a frankincense burner or they will chew it.  Frankincense has traditionally been used to treat ailments such as asthma, arthritis, Crohns, ulcerative colitis and irritable bowl syndrome.

I found this PubMed study on frankincense and bladder cancer.  Below is the conclusion from the study….

“Frankincense oil appears to distinguish cancerous from normal bladder cells and suppress cancer cell viability.  Microarray and bioinformatics analysis proposed multiple pathways that can be activated by frankincense oil to induce bladder cancer cell death.  Frankincense oil might represent an alternative intravesical agent for bladder cancer treatment.”

Isn’t that awesome??!!  One of the researchers on the bladder cancer study  is Dr. H.K. Lin, an immunologist and cancer researcher from the University of Oklahoma.  Dr. Lin  was also at Young Living’s convention this past June where he showed slides of his research on patients with bladder cancer.  Some patients were treated with frankincense while others received traditional cancer treatment.  Remarkably, the patients treated with frankincense showed an almost 100% cancer cell death without showing ANY healthy cell death!  Not only is that unheard of in cancer treatment but the patients also did not experience ANY side effects.  I remember Dr. Lin expressing his sincere surprise and excitement over the results.  He is now conducting more research using Young Living’s essential oils including Frankincense, Sandalwood, Balsam Fir, Palo Santo, and Tsuga against breast, colon, lung, prostate, and pancreatic cancers.  Dr. Lin also mentioned that using therapeutic grade frankincense on a daily basis would be an effective cancer preventative.  I found this quote from Dr. Lin on e! Science News: “Frankincense oil may represent an inexpensive alternative therapy for patients currently suffering from bladder cancer.”

One of the very best features of essential oils is that they are not one hit wonders.  Yes, frankincense may be a cure for cancer but it can also be used everyday for many different purposes through topical application, diffusion or ingesting (I recommend ingesting only YL oils) such as:

  • to support the immune system
  • to alleviate congestion
  • to promote peace and calming
  • to remove warts
  • to help smooth wrinkles (one of my favorites)

For me, frankincense was not a love at first whiff.  I had seen seasoned oilers go on about it and I just didn’t get it.  It’s aroma took some getting used to as I  prefer more floral and citrus scents.  But now, I love the smell of frankincense.  It has become one of my must-have oils because I feel better when I use it.  It grounds me, it supports me, it soothes me and it reminds me that people thousands of years ago used frankincense for the very same reasons.

Breast Health Awareness Month

In her article, “The Best Breast Test“, Christiane Northrup, M.D. has renamed October Breast Health Awareness Month.  Don’t you think that is so much better than Breast Cancer Awareness Month?  Yes, of course finding a cure for breast cancer would be wonderful but let’s not wait around for that to happen.  Let’s start thinking about prevention.  Dr. Northrup talks about using thermography instead of mammograms as a more reliable method for the early detection of breast cancer.  Studies have shown that once cancer is able to be detected by a mammogram or by physical examination it has been growing for about 7 years.  7 years!?!  Just think of all the lifestyle changes that could have been made in that time if a woman with breast cancer had known earlier that something was amiss.  Thermography can detect “hot spots” in the body.  It sees changes on a cellular level way before a tumor has grown into something that nobody wants and becomes difficult to get rid of.  Here are some numbers that really jumped out at me about the way breast cancer progresses  - “At 90 days there are two cells, at one year there are 16 cells, and at five years there are 1,048,576 cells—an amount that is still undetectable by a mammogram.  (At 8 years, there are almost 4 billion cells.)”  Here is a post from CNN which illustrates the need for a more reliable test –  “When a mammogram isn’t enough”.  If breast cancer can be detected sooner rather than later there is so much more that can be done before women have to go through surgery, chemo or radiation.

According to Dr. Andrew Weil, diet also plays a role in prevention.  Here is a link to his website to see the article, “Lowering Breast Cancer Risk”.  Lifestyle changes like becoming more active and limiting exposure to xenoestrogens are helpful to reducing the risk.  Xenoestrogens are chemicals that mimic the effect of estrogens in our bodies.  They can be found in pesticides, dry cleaning & bleached feminine hygiene products.   I strongly encourage you to review this list of xenoestrogens and how to avoid them.  Dr. Weil also suggests eating generous amount of fruits and vegetables (and I would include as many as possible from the list from my post on Sept. 21 “Eating Away Cancer”), adding more fiber everyday, consuming green tea and very little, if any, alcohol.

So what about essential oils?  How can they be used to support a healthy lifestyle?  There have been studies that show that frankincense is very effective at shutting cancer down (see this BBC article).  There have also been over 50 clinical studies that show that a natural occurring constituent in many citrus oils and in frankincense oil called “d-limonene” has shown to not only inhibit tumor growth but to also regress tumor growth!  To me that is just so amazing.  A natural substance with no horrible side effects can very possibly be a cure for cancer.  In order to duplicate the studies a person would need to consume about 2/3 of a 15 ml bottle of pure therapeutic grade orange oil which contains about 90% of d-limonene.  Personally, for prevention I add citrus oils like lemon, orange, or grapefruit to my water everyday.  It adds a wonderful flavor so I end up drinking more of it and it also adds the benefits that come with citrus essential oils like d-limonene and immune system support.  Of course, I am speaking of Young Living Oils.  I know and trust the oils I get from Young Living and I cannot speak of the quality of oils from other suppliers.  Below is a piece written by Vicki Opfer, who is a Crown Diamond distributor with Young Living.  Vicki studied with the renowned herbalist, Hanna Kroeger, before she found Young Living Essential Oils and is very well versed in the many benefits of using natural remedies for improving health.

When I joined Young Living I was not only skeptical about network marketing, I was also critical of it.  Today, I believe that network marketing offers us an opportunity unlike any that has been available in the history of mankind.

I have a story to tell you that will explain why I believe this to be true.  Some time ago, I had an opportunity to speak with a woman in Iowa, who is a chiropractor.  Dr. Peters told me that she had been concerned because of a family history of breast cancer.  She had gotten a mammogram, but felt, like I did, that mammograms may damage breast tissue.  So she found a doctor in California who offered thermal imaging of breasts, and flew to CA to have this done.  Unfortunately, the doctor found a number of “hot spots” and told her that he would want to re-examine her in 4 months.  She went back for a second visit, with the same results – a number of hot spots that the Dr. planned to monitor, and he asked that she come back again in 4 months.

Within a few weeks, Gary Young was in Iowa, speaking about the oils.  Gary presented research by Dr. Jamie Matta, which had also been presented at the annual Young Living convention, describing the combination of frankincense oil with other oils such as sandalwood, tsuga, and myrtle, which were documented as oils that may prevent cancer.

Dr. Peters bought these 4 oils.  Each day, morning and evening, she would put a few drops of the frankincense in her hand, and add one of the other three oils, and then apply this to her breasts.  She used the frankincense every day, and alternated in the other oils.  In four months, when she went back to California for her check up, the doctor did not find any significant hot spots in her breasts.  The doctor was amazed and wanted to know how this had happened.  I was asked to give him an introductory lecture by phone so that he would understand why this might have happened.

The doctor has considered doing a small research study with 30 women to see whether he can duplicate these results in other patients, and, if the results are good, doing a larger study with 300 women.

Isn’t that exciting?  Well, there’s something even more exciting to me!  While I am absolutely thrilled that the doctor will be validating the effects of the oils, I can begin to share this story with people today, and person to person, we can get this vital information out to as many people as possible – think of it!!!  What if we could even prevent 10% of the breast cancer cases that occur?  Wouldn’t that be wonderful?  That would make everything that we do worthwhile!!!    Now, THAT is the power of NETWORK MARKETING!!! ~ Vicki Opfer

Young Living Essential Oils, Kids & Parenting

When I first started using Young Living oils over 10 years ago it was because I fell in love with the scent of pure essential oils.  Once I smelled the blend Joy for the first time I never wore perfume again – ever.  My nose could no longer accept synthetic scents and my only choice was to use pure essential oils or nothing.  Even though I enjoyed the oils, I wasn’t sure how to use them and without all the information that is now available thanks to the internet I stopped using them for a number of years.  My mother who started with the oils when I did, continued to use them and benefit from them.  Every so often I would have her get me a bottle of Gentle Baby or Lavender to keep on hand.

Last year when my kids were 3 and 6 years old we were having a hard time getting them to settle down for the night.  We lived in Brooklyn, NY at the time and although I love city living it is a bit more stressful for everyone, including kids.  I was using lavender at night, putting it on their wrists or on their pillows and at first there was a bit of resistence but in time they enjoyed the new bedtime routine.  Then one night I realized I ran out of lavender, actually I think I just misplaced it, but either way it was gone.  It was time for bed and my son was not interested in going to sleep.  My mother, wonderful person that she is, had given me a bottle of Peace and Calming which was sitting on the shelf.  Now, to be honest, Peace and Calming was not my favorite scent so I was a bit unsure about using it but I needed to try something so I put it on my wrists and walked into my sons room and waved my arms around a bit.  In less than 60 seconds he finished getting dressed for bed and got into bed with a book.  It all happened so fast my husband and I looked at each other in amazement and that was when I knew these oils were something altogether different.  I had in my hands something that could soothe my kids in a safe and effective way and it was practically instantaneous.  WOW!

Now when they are hurt or upset they ask for the oils.  In the last year I have used Gentle Baby to soothe tired and cranky children, again with very fast results.  I’ve  used peppermint to cool a fever so my son could get back to sleep.  And I’ve used lavender over and over again for bumps, bruises, burns, cuts & bug bites.  The oils have slowly but surely become a part of our life, a life that I feel better about.  As my collection of oils has grown, our medicine cabinets have become more and more sparse.  We have children’s motrin if we should need it but we haven’t needed it in quite a while.  I will always see a Doctor if my kids are sick but I will also use my oils and I find that when they do get sick, as they will from time to time, an oil like Thieves is amazing in helping them get better faster and keeps the rest of us from getting it.  Big yeah for that!

When I tell people I use essential oils sometimes I get a certain look.  Like they are trying to figure out if I am for real or not, kind of like they heard what I just said but don’t really understand what I mean.  I don’t blame them because I know so many people simply do not understand what these oils can do.  There are so few places to get pure essential oils and the stuff they sell in the stores is often not pure so it makes sense that most have no idea of the power of therapeutic grade essential oils.  What I love, love, love is when someone jumps in and tries them.  I love getting that phone call, the “Oh my God”  phone call.  The “I used this on that and it worked so fast” phone call.  Because even though they hear what I’m saying or read the studies or whatever I think most people do not expect these oils to work the way that they do and when they do – wow!  Are the oils for everyone?  Nothing is for everyone but if you are looking for a way to take care of yourself, your family, even your pets, using less chemicals and more natural products than you may very well be looking for these oils.

From the moment I conceived my first child, and I have two now, I have been concerned about what “touched” them.  What foods, what TV shows, what schools they went to – and I know at times I have probably been too concerned over some things and not concerned enough about others – hey, that’s just parenting for you.  When I started with the oils, though I used caution, I felt like I found something that I could use that wasn’t tainted.  So often we discover that a product that might be good for you one minute, may turn out to be avoided like the plague the next.  With essential oils I am not using some faddish, new & improved product.  I’m using natural plants.  This stuff has been around for thousands of years.  There are over 1oo biblical references of essential oils , the Egyptians wrote formulas in hieroglyphics, tomb raiders left jewels and stole the oils because that is how valuable they were.  So I’m not worried that a report is going to come out next week that tells me that Frankincense is bad for me, actually a report will probably be coming out about how good it is for me.  I am cautious, I check which oils are ok for kids and in the last year every time I’ve used the oils on them it has been a positive experience.  Just the other day, my daughter was playing with a changing room door and smashed her finger.  She was quite upset and in a fair amount of pain and anyone nearby knew it, but as I put the oil on and asked her if it felt better she was still fussing a bit but it wasn’t because of her pain.  She was still in the mode of expressing her pain but her pain was no longer there.  Once she got it, that the pain was gone, she was up and out the door and ready to jump in the pool.  No need for ice, no swelling – I’ve never seen kids heal as fast and get over the upset and move on as when I use the oils.

As a parent I’ve noticed that when I’m feeling stressed, my kids can take on that stress.  I try, and sometimes I even succeed, to reduce my stress before it grows bigger and bigger.  I grab an oil and it is such a relief.  It makes me stop and smell something wonderful, that alone will reduce stress, but then all the amazing constituents get into my blood stream and get to work.  It is, hands down, one of the biggest benefits of using the oils.  They are easy to carry around, so I always have a couple of oils on hand, and when I need them I am so happy to have them because they work – fast.  Whatever your need is – easing stress, pain relief, more focus – there is an oil that can satisfy that need at anytime.

New Products Launched at the 2010 Convention in Salt Lake City

At every convention Young Living launches new products.  At this convention two new diffusers, 2 new oils & 1 new progesterone serum were introduced.  Here is a review of the products.

Sacred Frankincense has a deep rich, woody  aroma that is very grounding.  Every time I wandered into the product expo I would get a small scent tab and dip it into the Sacred Frankincense then after putting a bit on my wrists or neck I would drop it into my bag which made everything in my bag smell divine.  Once I got back to the hotel I would then add it to my suitcase so that my clothes would then take on the smell.  What a treat when I got home and opened my luggage.

Who among us can’t use a bit of Common Sense every now and again?!  For those times when too much is going on and you need a bit of help getting focused & balanced.

Progessence Plus will be a big hit this year.  When Dr. Purser introduced this new serum the crowd was very receptive and very excited.  It is unlike any type of progesterone product on the market today.  The smart people at YL figured out that most topical creams are not able to get deep into the skin so they used oils like frankincense, bergamot and peppermint to help push the natural progesterone in.  Brilliant? Yes!  This product may be used by any woman who needs help either during her monthly cycle or for menopausal symptoms.  This product can also be used by young women experiencing PMS.

The Aria diffuser is beautiful.  It is a very atmospheric diffuser that has a 12 minute loop of soothing music and a plug for your mp3 player.  It also comes with a remote control.  Use in a space up to 400 sf.

The Therapro diffuser is all business.  YL made some nice improvements such as no more glass nebulizer – yeah!  The bottle is attached to the machine and then you can set the duration & the output that works for you.  Use in a space up to 800 sf.

Notes from Convention

This is a photo form the YL farm in Mona, Utah.  The Roman Chamomile was ready for harvest, smelled wonderful and was just so beautiful to see.  We all had a such great time at convention.  It was so amazing to be in a place where there were over 5000 people who knew the value and appreciate the oils as much as I do.  That in and of itself was such a treat.  I have trusted YL oils from the beginning because I can feel the difference -I had pain, I would use an oil, I would feel better-that is what I knew and trusted and I believe that only a unadulterated oil could produce the results I was getting.  After coming to convention and seeing and hearing the dedication and commitment not only from Gary Young but from all of the  employees that spoke, I know that YL standards are the best.  It is a company wide agenda and if it doesn’t meet YL standards it does not get bottled and shipped.  It is so easy for a company to say its’ oil is 100% essential oil, some even use therapeutic grade on the label, but I feel very comfortable in saying that there is not another essential oil company that goes to the lengths that YL does to ensure that it is what they say it is, 100% therapeutic grade essential oil.  If any wants some CD’s on YL standards please let me know and I will be happy to send them to you.

What did I learn at convention?  Ohhhhh, lots of things!  Here are a few tips that I thought I would pass along in no particular order.

Frankincense – you want this oil.  Why? Because it is a very grounding oil that has shown a remarkable ability to repair DNA and has anti-cancer effects.  Oman is a country of about 2 million people and cancer is rare there.  Dr. Suhail, who spoke at the convention, mentioned that he sees 1-2 cases of cancer every few years.  There are no cancer wings at the hospitals in Oman.  I’m sure diet & lifestyle plays a major cause in the lack of cancer, Dr. Suhail also mentioned that the cases he sees are people who have left Oman and then returned, but I also think the way the Omanis use Frankincense could also play a factor.  They chew on the resin, they burn it, they ingest it.

Oils & Kids – I heard Peter Minke, Ph.D, speak a couple of times over the week.  He is the father of three, with the fourth on its way, and he and his wife give classes on how to use the oils with kids.  Here are a few tips from his talk.   First and foremost – Use what you have on hand!  Simple, I know, but always keep in mind the oils have many different functions.  Of course it is great to have an array of oils but if you don’t have your first choice try one you do have and don’t stop until you find the oil that works for you.

Valor for big bumps and bruises.  I have used Lavender and have been amazed at how quickly the inflammation recedes. Valor tends to drip out slowly so either pound it out or take off the top and pour.  Speed is key, the faster you get the oil on the faster it will help with swelling.  In the case of a major trauma like a broken leg, on your way to medical treatment (or while you are waiting in the waiting room) you could use valor  & PanAway  for the swelling and the pain but don’t forget to use a calming oil for the trauma like Peace & Calming or lavender.  Again, use what you have.

Lemon makes a body feel good.  If you are feeling run down try some lemon oil.  Lemon oil is also safe for infants for fevers and it’s ok to use in repeated doses.  He likes to put the oil on the inside of the elbow, right on the crease of the inner  arm.  There are lots of  nice big veins that the oils can get into and get right to work.  If you are concerned about  an oil being photosensitive then put it “where the sun don’t shine”!  The feet are a good choice if you are going to be out in the sun.

Myrtle is good for respiratory problems and immune support and is a good choice for younger children.  Babies and menthol do not mix.  Don’t use peppermint & wintergreen on babies under three.

Lavender & Aloe Vera juice as a sunburn spray.  Mix 4 ounces of Aloe Vera juice and 20 drops of Lavender.  Spray as needed.

Morning water – after 7 or so hours of sleep your body needs water.  Most people are waking up dehydrated then adding coffee to their bodies which is also dehydrating. So, upon waking have at least a glass or two of water (the more the better) before you reach for your morning joe.  Then, of course, have lots of water throughout the day.

Boswellic Acid – highest concentration is found in Frankincense resin.  A smaller amount is found in YL Frankincense oil.  It is a potent anti-inflammatory and its traditional uses include – colitis, asthma (Germany & Austria are considering using Frankincense as a main, non-emergency treatment),arthritis.  I also found articles mentioning Boswellic Acid causing cancer cell death in brain tumors and cells affected by leukemia and colon cancer.  Then I found this on the Memorial Sloan Kettering website  - “Boswellic acid seems to have fewer adverse effects than steroids and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.”. YL oil and resins come from either Boswellia Sacra tree from Oman or Boswellia Carterii tree from Somalia.

Blue Gum Eucalyptus – Young Living is the only company that offers this type of eucalyptus.  For anyone that has a reaction to the usual eucalyptus oil, like Radiata, they might want to give this oil a try.  It is a non allergen eucalyptus oil that is grown and distilled at the YL farm in Ecuador.

RutaVaLa – I know some people who use this roll on as a sleep aid and that it works very well for that.  I also learned at convention that it can also be used as an anti-depressant.  Here’s to a happy sleep!

If you use any of these tips please let me know if they worked for you (or not).  I would love feedback either way.
