Young Living Sacred Frankincense and Breast Cancer Pub Med Study Results

On October 7, 2011 I posted a video with Dr. Mahmoud Suhail describing results from cancer studies using Boswellia Sacra (Sacred Frankincense) on cancer.  See this link for the video.  The results are amazing and now there is a Pub Med study reporting those findings.  Click here if you would like to read the study.  Below are the conclusions.

"Similar to our previous observations in human bladder cancer cells, Boswellia sacra essential oil induces breast cancer cell-specific cytotoxicity. Suppression of cellular network formation and disruption of spheroid development of breast cancer cells by Boswellia sacra essential oil suggest that the essential oil may be effective for treating advanced breast cancer. Consistently, the essential oil represses signaling pathways and cell cycle regulators that have been proposed as therapeutic targets for breast cancer. Future pre-clinical and clinical studies are urgently needed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of Boswellia sacra essential oil as a therapeutic agent for treating breast cancer."

Amazing, right?!  What Bosellia Sacra does is kill cancer cells, what it does not do is kill healthy cells!  That is exactly what medicine should do.  Simple I know, but true.  Last October I wrote a post, "Breast Health Awareness Month"  have a look for more ideas on natural cancer prevention with tips from Dr. Christiane Northrup, Dr. Andrew Weil, and Vicki Opfer, a Young Living Crown Diamond.

Dr. H. K. Lin who was a part of this study as well as others on frankincense and cancer has suggested that taking frankincense as a preventative would be a good idea.  I personally use frankincense daily.  If I had a history of cancer in my family it would be a definite.  Why wait until it’s too late?

A new year is just around the corner.  Make it a healthy & happy one and get started with Young Living today.  So many different options to choose from too!  If you want to jump in (the best way) then start with the essential oil starter kit.  The kit includes one 5 ml bottle of frankincense as well as eight other delicious and amazing oils.  If you would rather start with a toe in the water then you could try one or two oils like lavender or sacred frankincense.  Go here to order. Feel free to contact me at (younglivinglife at gmail dot com) if you have any questions.

Dr. Mahmoud Suhail on Frankincense

Below is a new video from Young Living that features Dr. Mahmoud Suhail discussing  his current research using Boswellia Sacra.  Young Living is the only essential oil company that bottles Boswellia Sacra (as Sacred Frankincense).

About halfway through Dr. Suhail cites two different cancer cases from pre-clinical trials happening in Oman and Northern Africa.  The results are very exciting.  In one case the carcinoembryonic antigen was 210.  A reading of 10-20 is high (mostly likely that you would have cancer).  A reading of more than 20 would indicate metastases for certain.  Carcinoembryonic antigen went from 210 -18 in less than 21 days and the primary tumor disappeared in an additional 3-4 weeks!   So many people are affected by cancer.  Please watch this video and share it with others.

Breast Health Awareness Month

In her article, “The Best Breast Test“, Christiane Northrup, M.D. has renamed October Breast Health Awareness Month.  Don’t you think that is so much better than Breast Cancer Awareness Month?  Yes, of course finding a cure for breast cancer would be wonderful but let’s not wait around for that to happen.  Let’s start thinking about prevention.  Dr. Northrup talks about using thermography instead of mammograms as a more reliable method for the early detection of breast cancer.  Studies have shown that once cancer is able to be detected by a mammogram or by physical examination it has been growing for about 7 years.  7 years!?!  Just think of all the lifestyle changes that could have been made in that time if a woman with breast cancer had known earlier that something was amiss.  Thermography can detect “hot spots” in the body.  It sees changes on a cellular level way before a tumor has grown into something that nobody wants and becomes difficult to get rid of.  Here are some numbers that really jumped out at me about the way breast cancer progresses  - “At 90 days there are two cells, at one year there are 16 cells, and at five years there are 1,048,576 cells—an amount that is still undetectable by a mammogram.  (At 8 years, there are almost 4 billion cells.)”  Here is a post from CNN which illustrates the need for a more reliable test –  “When a mammogram isn’t enough”.  If breast cancer can be detected sooner rather than later there is so much more that can be done before women have to go through surgery, chemo or radiation.

According to Dr. Andrew Weil, diet also plays a role in prevention.  Here is a link to his website to see the article, “Lowering Breast Cancer Risk”.  Lifestyle changes like becoming more active and limiting exposure to xenoestrogens are helpful to reducing the risk.  Xenoestrogens are chemicals that mimic the effect of estrogens in our bodies.  They can be found in pesticides, dry cleaning & bleached feminine hygiene products.   I strongly encourage you to review this list of xenoestrogens and how to avoid them.  Dr. Weil also suggests eating generous amount of fruits and vegetables (and I would include as many as possible from the list from my post on Sept. 21 “Eating Away Cancer”), adding more fiber everyday, consuming green tea and very little, if any, alcohol.

So what about essential oils?  How can they be used to support a healthy lifestyle?  There have been studies that show that frankincense is very effective at shutting cancer down (see this BBC article).  There have also been over 50 clinical studies that show that a natural occurring constituent in many citrus oils and in frankincense oil called “d-limonene” has shown to not only inhibit tumor growth but to also regress tumor growth!  To me that is just so amazing.  A natural substance with no horrible side effects can very possibly be a cure for cancer.  In order to duplicate the studies a person would need to consume about 2/3 of a 15 ml bottle of pure therapeutic grade orange oil which contains about 90% of d-limonene.  Personally, for prevention I add citrus oils like lemon, orange, or grapefruit to my water everyday.  It adds a wonderful flavor so I end up drinking more of it and it also adds the benefits that come with citrus essential oils like d-limonene and immune system support.  Of course, I am speaking of Young Living Oils.  I know and trust the oils I get from Young Living and I cannot speak of the quality of oils from other suppliers.  Below is a piece written by Vicki Opfer, who is a Crown Diamond distributor with Young Living.  Vicki studied with the renowned herbalist, Hanna Kroeger, before she found Young Living Essential Oils and is very well versed in the many benefits of using natural remedies for improving health.

When I joined Young Living I was not only skeptical about network marketing, I was also critical of it.  Today, I believe that network marketing offers us an opportunity unlike any that has been available in the history of mankind.

I have a story to tell you that will explain why I believe this to be true.  Some time ago, I had an opportunity to speak with a woman in Iowa, who is a chiropractor.  Dr. Peters told me that she had been concerned because of a family history of breast cancer.  She had gotten a mammogram, but felt, like I did, that mammograms may damage breast tissue.  So she found a doctor in California who offered thermal imaging of breasts, and flew to CA to have this done.  Unfortunately, the doctor found a number of “hot spots” and told her that he would want to re-examine her in 4 months.  She went back for a second visit, with the same results – a number of hot spots that the Dr. planned to monitor, and he asked that she come back again in 4 months.

Within a few weeks, Gary Young was in Iowa, speaking about the oils.  Gary presented research by Dr. Jamie Matta, which had also been presented at the annual Young Living convention, describing the combination of frankincense oil with other oils such as sandalwood, tsuga, and myrtle, which were documented as oils that may prevent cancer.

Dr. Peters bought these 4 oils.  Each day, morning and evening, she would put a few drops of the frankincense in her hand, and add one of the other three oils, and then apply this to her breasts.  She used the frankincense every day, and alternated in the other oils.  In four months, when she went back to California for her check up, the doctor did not find any significant hot spots in her breasts.  The doctor was amazed and wanted to know how this had happened.  I was asked to give him an introductory lecture by phone so that he would understand why this might have happened.

The doctor has considered doing a small research study with 30 women to see whether he can duplicate these results in other patients, and, if the results are good, doing a larger study with 300 women.

Isn’t that exciting?  Well, there’s something even more exciting to me!  While I am absolutely thrilled that the doctor will be validating the effects of the oils, I can begin to share this story with people today, and person to person, we can get this vital information out to as many people as possible – think of it!!!  What if we could even prevent 10% of the breast cancer cases that occur?  Wouldn’t that be wonderful?  That would make everything that we do worthwhile!!!    Now, THAT is the power of NETWORK MARKETING!!! ~ Vicki Opfer

Eating away cancer

“Autopsy studies from people who died in car accidents have shown that about 40% of women between the ages of 40 and 50 actually have microscopic cancers in their breasts.  About 50% of men in their 50′s and 60′s have microscopic prostate cancers. And virtually 100% of us by the time we reach our 70′s will have microscopic cancer growing in our thyroid.  Yet without a blood supply most of these cancers will never become dangerous.”  Dr. William Li

“Diet accounts for 30-35% of environmentally caused cancer.”  Dr. William Li

TED Talk with Dr. William Li: Can we eat to starve cancer?

I find the first quote shocking and the second quote empowering.  As I watched the above video I was amazed and excited.  We don’t have to rely on big pharmaceuticals to come up with a cancer cure!  Preventing cancer for most people may be a matter of just eating a better diet!  I think many people know that eating healthy foods, exercising regularly and relaxing are all things we need to do to lower our risk of  becoming ill.  We know it but do we do it? Probably not as often as we would like.  But instead of beating ourselves up about not doing enough, let’s look at it another way.  Below is a list of foods that have been found to be helpful in preventing cancer and many other diseases.  This is accomplished by a process called antiangiogenesis.  Diseased cells are intentionally cut off from a blood supply (ie a source of nutrients) and thereby prevented from growing.  If we can add some of these foods to our diets and consume them on a regular basis we may be able to have a longer healthier life and possibly prevent cancer from ever showing up.  Now doesn’t that sound nice?

Making small changes to your diet is not that hard.  Pick one item from the above list and find new ways to add it into your diet and the next week try another. You could add fresh or frozen blueberries (preferably organic) to your cereal in the morning or as a desert at night.  Mix a handful of the berries into a smoothie.  Make your own salad dressing by using some fresh lemon juice, olive oil & salt.  I love steamed soy beans with a bit of tamari over brown rice or have a glass of red wine at night.  Many of these foods are as common as can be like apples, cherries and garlic.  Some a little more exotic, sea cucumber, maitake mushrooms and bok choy.  I was thrilled to see Lavender on the list and not really surprised to see the citrus fruits lemon, orange & grapefruit.  I have read studies where these essential oils have been shown to not only inhibit tumor growth but have also reduced existing tumors – isn’t that remarkable?!

One of my family’s favorite supplements is Ningxia Red (click on the link for more information).  Ningxia Red is an immune supporting, antioxidant super juice that is a great addition to any diet.  It has Ningxia wolfberry purée, raspberries, blueberries, apricots, pomegranates as well as lemon & orange essential oils.  I have heard many stories of people who were undergoing cancer treatments that have found this drink to be very helpful and supportive during a very challenging time.  So helpful that their Doctor’s told them to keep doing whatever they were doing.  I know from personal use that this juice improves my eyesight, helps to reduce sugar cravings and improves my energy levels.  When I read the food list above for the first time I immediately thought of Ningxia Red because it contains several of those items.

My guess is that we’ll be hearing more and more about how certain foods can help us keep disease at bay.  See if you can find a few good ones you like and eat them more regularly.

Now pardon me, I need to go make a big pot of tomato sauce while I enjoy a glass of red wine.

How dirty is your soap? Young Living Essential Oils can help you clean up.

Without much effort on my part, I seem to find information about the chemicals and toxins that are in our everyday products.  The more I read about it the more I’m blown away – they are everywhere.  Chemicals are in our food and water, our personal care products, televisions, computers, mattresses and clothing.  I could keep going but I think you get the idea.  More and more studies are showing how prevalent these chemicals are in our lives and how they are having many undesired effects.  I would rather not make myself crazy about all the “Chemicals” that are everywhere and in everything that we touch.  So I do what I can for myself and my family.  I eat organic as much as possible, limit processed foods, stay away from all commercial cleaners and air “fresheners” (try more like carcinogenic pollutants) and I avoid using antibacterial anything, including soaps.  Why do I bother?  Because I am more than concerned by how common these chemicals are and how we really don’t know what they do to us.  Here is a great video called “The Story of Cosmetics”.  In it, Annie Leonard explains her theory of “toxins in, toxins out.”  If we put toxic chemicals in our products, we will get toxic chemicals in our bodies.  Even small but regular exposure to everyday products means we’re ingesting chemicals like lead, mercury, fire-retardants and triclosan.  Ms. Leonard also goes on to explain how the industry self-regulates and that putting “natural’ or “organic” on a label can mean absolutely nothing.  Manufacturers are permitted to put just about whatever they want on a label, even when it may have no relation to what is actually in the bottle.

I recently learned about a chemical called triclosan that is found in over 700 different personal and household consumer products.  These include toothpaste, mouthwash, deodorant, and antibacterial soap.  Triclosan is also used in products like children’s toys, bedding, trash bags, cutting boards and yoga mats.  You will most likely find it in anything that is marketed as “Antibacterial”.  You might think that a chemical that is in such wide use would have been thoroughly researched by the FDA.  Not the case with triclosan.  This past July, the National Resources Defense Council filed a lawsuit against the FDA for not properly regulating triclosan and triclocarban, a related substance.  Here is a very informative file from the NRDC titled “Not Effective and Not Safe:  The FDA Must Regulate Dangerous Antimicrobials In Everyday Products”

Research has shown that triclosan is not effective in preventing sickness (surprise!), which would be funny if research also didn’t show that it has been linked to a number of human health problems.  These problems included increased risk of respiratory illness, such as asthma, cancer and even subtle effects on learning.   Some researchers are concerned that triclosan may be a potential endocrine disruptor and that it may interfere with the body’s thyroid hormone metabolism.  Triclosan is also a chemical that builds up in fatty tissues over prolonged use which is apparently why it is found in human milk and in the urine of 75% of the population.  Unsettling, considering we don’t actually eat it.  There’s an environmental impact as well.  Chemicals such as triclosan are getting into our water supply.  Researchers are finding them in rivers and in the fish that swim in those rivers.  For more information on triclosan and tricolcarban, please see the Beyond Pesticides website.   I also found an informative Washington Post article, “FDA says studies on triclosan, used in sanitizers and soaps, raise concerns” on that same site.

Another alarming study shows a link between breast cancer, cleaning products and air fresheners.  The study found that women who were exposed to the highest combined use of cleaning products and air fresheners were more likely to have breast cancer than women who were not exposed.  The study can be found here.  Many disagree with the study because the participants, 787 women with breast cancer and 721 controls, were “asked about product use, beliefs about breast cancer etiology, and established and suspected breast cancer risk factors.”  The researchers acknowledge that there is some bias but also state that “exposure to chemicals from household cleaning products is a biologically plausible cause of breast cancer and  is avoidable”.  I hope more research will be done soon but in the mean time why wait for scientists to tell us what the indicators are pointing to.  Why not throw out the toxic “cleaners” and start using natural and safe alternatives immediately?  You can even make your own!  Simply google “natural cleaning recipes” to find some great cleaning products you can make yourself.  Check out this interesting article from the New York Times about how we don’t need toxic chemicals to clean: The Claim: Cinnamon Oil Kills Bacteria

-In a country obsessed with germs and sickness, “antibacterial” soaps and sanitizers are becoming more and more common.  But because such products contribute to the growing problem of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, some researchers recommend sanitizers made with cinnamon oil, which has been shown in many studies to have powerful antimicrobial properties.  A recent study by a team of surgeons, for example, found that a solution made with cinnamon oil killed a number of common hospital-acquired infections, like streptococcus and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, or MRSA. The study found it was just as effective as several antiseptics widely used in hospitals.  Another study by French researchers in 2008 had similar results, showing that at concentrations of 10 percent or less, cinnamon oil was effective against Staphylococcus, E. coli and several antibiotic-resistant strains of bacteria.  Dr. Lawrence D. Rosen, a pediatrician in New Jersey who dispenses natural health advice on his blog,, recommends a tried-and-true recipe for hand sanitizer called thieves oil. “I add cinnamon bark, lemon oil and eucalyptus,” he said, noting that “the recipe goes back to the Middle Ages, where it was used by these thieves who would go around stealing jewelry from dead bodies, and they never got sick.”

Cinnamon oil, when applied topically, is generally safe.  But in some people it can cause an allergic reaction.-

This is a no brainer.  Why would I use toxic chemicals when I can use products that are safe and natural and smell a lot better?  It really isn’t that hard to get started.  The first step is to get rid of all of your old cleaners.  You don’t even have to throw them in the trash right this minute, just replace them with natural products when they run out.  If you are interested in trying the Thieves blend, Young Living also has a great Start Living with Thieves Kit to get you started.  Note in the article when the pediatrician mentioned the Thieves recipe goes back to the Middle Ages and it kept the thieves from getting ill as they were robbing plague victims.  I consider the Thieves essential oil blend my “secret” weapon.  When the kids started school this year within the first week my daughter had a cough and my son had some sniffles.  I pulled out my Thieves, put some on their feet and I also diffused it while they were watching tv.  The cough and the sniffles went away the next day.  I’ve used it for sore throats, headaches and any time I feel like I am getting sick.  With the cold and flu season approaching now is a perfect time to supply yourself with this versatile essential oil blend.  As you will see, the kit has everything you need to get started.

The kit contains:

1-15ml bottle of Thieves essential oil,

1 Thieves Dentarome Ultra Toothpaste (my fave),
