101 Uses for the Essential 7 Kit

The Essential 7 Kit was created by Young Living Essential Oils (YLEO) so that anyone could immediately use and appreciate the benefits of therapeutic-grade essential oils. The Kit contains three single oils: Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia), Lemon (Citrus limon) and Peppermint (Mentha piperita), and four oil blends: Joy, PanAway, Peace & Calming and Purification. All single oils may be used as dietary supplements. All of the oils may by diffused. The diffuser from YLEO is a special air pump that is custom designed to disperse the oils in a microfiber vapor. This allows the oils to stay suspended in the air to reduce bacteria, fungi and mold. It also freshens the air with natural fragrances, eliminating the need for synthetic, harmful air fresheners. The diffuser disperses the oils without heat, which could render the essential oils less effective. All of the oils can be applied to the Vita Flex points on the feet, added to bath water mixed with YLEO’s Bath Gel Base, applied topically or used with body and foot massage. PLEASE CAREFULLY READ AND FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES FOR THE SAFE USE OF YOUNG LIVING ESSENTIAL OILS INCLUDED AT THE END OF THIS HANDOUT.

LAVENDER – (Lavandula angustifolia) is the most versatile of all essential oils. Therapeutic-grade lavender has been highly regarded for the skin. THESE SUGGESTED USES APPLY ONLY TO THE USE OF THERAPEUTIC GRADE, YOUNG LIVING ESSENTIAL OILS. GUIDELINES FOR THE SAFE USE OF YOUNG LIVING ESSENTIAL OILS.

1. Always keep a bottle of V-6 Vegetable Mixing Oil, Massage Oil Base or any pure vegetable oil handy when using essential oils. Vegetable oils dilute essential oils if they cause discomfort or skin irritation.

2. Keep bottles of essential oils tightly closed and store them in a cool location away from light. If stored properly, essential oils will maintain their potency for many years.

3. Keep essential oils out of reach of children. Treat them as you would any product for therapeutic use.

4. Do not use essential oils rich in menthol (such as peppermint) on the throat or neck area of children under 30 months of age.

5. Direct sunlight and essential oils. Lemon, bergamot, orange, grapefruit, tangerine, White Angelica and other citrus oils may cause a rash or darker pigmentation if applied to skin exposed to direct sunlight or UV rays with 3 to 4 days of use.

6. Keep essential oils away from eye area and do not put into ears. Do not handle contact lenses or rub eyes with essential oils on fingers. Oils with high phenol content –  oregano, helichrysum, cinnamon, thyme, clove. Lemongrass, bergamot, Thieves and ImmuPower – may damage contacts and irritate eyes.

7. Pregnant women should consult their health care professional before using essential oils containing constituents with hormone-like activity, such as clary sage, sage, Idaho tansy, juniper and fennel.

8. Epileptics and those with high blood pressure should consult their health care professional before using essential oils. Avoid hyssop, fennel and Idaho tansy oils.

9. People with allergies should test a small amount of oil on a small area of sensitive skin, such as the inside of the arm, before applying the oil on other areas. The bottom of the feet is one of the safest, most effective places to use essential oils.

10. Before taking GRAS (Generally Regarded as Safe) essential oils internally, always dilute with an oil-soluble liquid like honey, olive oil or soy milk.

11. Do not add undiluted essential oils directly to bath water. Use Bath Gel Base as a dispersing agent for oils in the bath.

A little cancer with your lipstick?

Personal care products are jam-packed with petrochemicals that can very possibly have serious health effects. These are products that many women and men use on a daily basis.  It is not that we are using just one product that could be harmful, we are using many different products simultaneously.  Sadly, it seems, we are human guinea pigs.  Of the 11 types of products listed in the illustrated photo below, 5 of them have possible hormone disruptors and 3 are linked to cancer.  Other possible side effects include infertility, rashes, headaches, and irritation of skin, eyes, and lungs, to name just a few.  It’s also shocking to note that there are 250 chemicals in perfume alone.  That just does not seem reasonable to me.  Why must our products be so toxic, not only to us but to those we love?  The answer is that they don’t need to be, they are made to be that way for one reason only: cost.  It’s cheaper to use many petrochemicals in these products than to use real, natural ingredients.  As consumers, we have a choice to make.  Do we continue to support companies that produce products that not only harm us but also harm our children?  I don’t think so.  By using essential oils and essential oil-based personal care products, we don’t have to worry about doing any harm to anyone.  We can use these products knowing that they are safe and enhance our well being and those around us.

I use the Young Living essential oil blend called Joy every day.  One day I walked into a very busy business where the woman at the desk is usually grumpy, not mean, just grumpy.  As I was standing there waiting for her to sort out my concern, she asked “What is that smell?”  Her coworker mentioned that she was wearing clove but that wasn’t it.  Eventually, I held out my hand, which still smelled of Joy and asked if this was the smell.  What I remember most is the way her whole face softened.  Suddenly, she did not look so grumpy anymore, she even smiled a bit.  I’m not sure how long it lasted but it was definitely to my benefit, and to hers!  Essential oils can touch many people in many different ways.  All without toxic effect.

Lip Balms, Lotion Bars & Salt Scrubs. Oh, my!

Because I had so much extra time this past December (yes, I’m kidding) I thought it would be fun to start making some natural, homemade personal care products.  I did end up giving some away as gifts, which was great, but really, I just wanted to see if even I, a not so handy or crafty kind of person could make these items at home.  The answer is a definite yes.  I was actually quite surprised that it was so easy.  I also love knowing exactly what is in my products.  I used simple ingredients like organic beeswax, organic coconut oil, pure shea butter, and of course, therapeutic grade Young Living essential oils.

Out of curiosity I had a look at the ingredient list of a hand lotion that I had bought a while ago.  Of course it says all natural on the label, even some ingredients are organic but I noticed the first ingredient is water and the last ingredient is phenoxyethanol (not a clue on how to pronounce that one). Since I had no idea what that was I checked it out on the EWG site Skin Deep, which reviews and rates ingredients that you will find in personal care products.  It has a rating of a 4, a moderate hazard, which is not that bad but it makes me wonder why do I even need this in my hand lotion?  The answer is that I don’t.  My new-found favorite pastime (kidding again) is making lotion bars. They are easy to make and great to use.  And best of all you will know exactly what you put in them.  Nothing with a long name that you can’t pronounce, just ingredients that are good for you and your body.  It doesn’t get better than that.

The lip balm was also easy to make and has now become my favorite lip balm to use.  When I first tried it I was a bit concerned as it was quite hard and was not like most soft lip balms.  What I found  after a few uses is that it did soften and what I really love about this balm is that it seals.  With the softer balms I find that once they are absorbed they disappear.   What I like most about this balm is that  it stays on for a while and protects my lips from drying out.  We also use this balm on any rough spots on our hands. I also made some salt scrubs.  After using the scrub my skin felt great and I didn’t need to use any lotion afterwards.  I used epsom salts, a massage oil, like V-6 and any essential oil that I liked.  One of my  favorites is Young Living’s grapefruit essential oil. Below are the recipes that I used but keep in mind that you can find many more recipes on the web with a quick google search.  You can find most of the ingredients at your local health food store.  Make sure to get food grade coconut oil, of course organic is best, and pure fragrance free shea butter.  I asked a beekeeper at my local farmers market where to get beeswax and he insisted that I use organic beeswax and that this site, www.glorybeefoods.com, is the best place to find it .  You can also find the lip balm tubes there as well.    If you are ready to get started with Young Living Essential Oils see here.

Lip Balm – This recipe made 12 small tubes of lip balm.

Ingredients:

  • 1 Ounce Organic Beeswax
  • 1 Tablespoon Organic Coconut Oil – Refined
  • 4 drops (or more) of Young Living Essential Oils

Melt the Beeswax in the microwave or in a double boiler.  Add the Coconut Oil and combine.  Take off the heat and add your Essential Oils.  I used lots of grapefruit, one of my favorites, but you could use lavender, citrus fresh, orange, peppermint, tangerine or any combo that you fancy!  Pour into your tubes or pots and let cool.  That’s it!

Lotion Bars – I made these twice so far and my preference is for the bar using the coconut oil.  I liked the consistency better than the almond oil.  Just make sure to use refined coconut oil so that the coconut smell will not overpower the oils.  They were very similar though so if you have one ingredient and not the other I would use what I had on hand.

Ingredients:

  • 2 Ounces Organic Beeswax
  • 2 Ounces Shea Butter
  • 2 Ounces Organic Coconut Oil or 2 Ounces Almond Oil
  • 1 Teaspoon Young Living Essential Oil

Melt the beeswax either in the microwave or over a double boiler.  Once melted add the shea butter & coconut oil.  If using the almond oil add once the beeswax and the shea butter have completely melted.  Remove from heat and add essential oil.  Pour into mold (you can use muffin tins, soap molds, yogurt cups).  Allow to cool. To use:  rub between hands to warm up the bar and release the lotion.

Salt Scrubs – This can be used in the shower or you can have a small container next to the sink for use after hand washing.  Your skin will thank you!

Ingredients:

  • 1 Cup Epsom Salt
  • 1 Cup Massage Oil, like Young Living’s V-6
  • Young Living Essential Oil to liking

If you like a less oily scrub use  2 Cups Salt to 1 Cup oil instead.  Use whatever oils you love – lavender, any of the citrus oils would be yummy, citrus fresh, or possibly lemongrass if you have some muscle pain.  I really enjoyed the combo of lavender and peppermint.  I did not use that much peppermint, maybe a drop or two, because peppermint  and hot water  is not a good combination.  Although it is an unlikely blend, since lavender is calming and peppermint is energizing, it’s  really great for your morning shower. If you try any of these recipes I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.  Of course, I would love to hear any feedback. Last Night a Raindrop Saved My Life (sung to "Last Night a DJ Saved My Life")

Ok, so I wasn’t on death’s door so to speak BUT it kinda felt like it.  And, I don’t mean a raindrop as a drop of water falling from the sky, but I’ll tell you more about that in a bit.  My cute, adorable, charming son (aka darling germ magnet) came home with a cough last week that just did not want to leave no matter what I threw at him.  I pulled out my big guns, immupower, thieves, R.C., and while they helped he still went on to SHARE his new friend – lucky me!  So, now I have this lovely cough.  Now, you must understand one thing.  When I get a cough it is not pretty.  Really, not pretty.  If, and I pray, pray, pray that I don’t, but if, I cough in a public place I immediately clear a large area around me.  It’s a neat trick!  And, I get very concerned looks.  Very concerned.   I don’t blame them at all.  I sometimes look around after a coughing fit to make sure I haven’t lost a lung or something.  So I have this cough, and any time I want to breathe it’s not so fun.  But, hey, I’m an oiler and I’ve got the best stuff.

I start with R.C. for the congestion and it helps a bit.  I use immupower on my feet, man, can you say STINKY!  I’m sure the germs hightail it just to get away from the smell! Then I grab the thieves and oregano.  I put a couple of drops of each in a capsule to ingest and that helps.  In less than half an hour I feel better – yeah team oils!  Then horror of all horrors I realize I am out of thieves!  What?!  When my darling germ magnet began coughing I started diffusing it and putting it on everyone’s feet (everyone being the kids, obviously my feet missed the thieves boat this time around).

Ok so now I have a secret for you (don’t tell anyone, k?) – even us oilers get sick!  I know, that is just crazy, but it’s true.  But here is the really crazy part, since it doesn’t happen that often I always forget what to do!  I would like to say it’s because I’m sick and I have a couple of kids running around but it’s probably because I have always had a very laid back approach when I’m ill.  A sort of less is more, I’ll ride it out, the drugs are usually worse than the illness, kind of approach.  But, now that I have all these fabulous oils around, the trick is knowing how to use them.  That really is the key – using them.  Even though they sure do look pretty all lined up on my counter it’s about getting them in or on me that really makes the difference.

After having to hang up on a friend that I had not spoken to in years because of a scary sounding coughing fit I knew it was time to try something else.  I’d like to say that the raindrop idea was all my own, well I could, and no one would know any the better (except me of course), but it wasn’t.  I was on Facebook and Dr. Shelton (see Young Living Essential Oils and Pets for more on her) noted how after having a similar persistent cough a raindrop with lots of oils did the trick for them.  So when my husband walked in the door looking like CRAP and feeling worse I told him he was getting a raindrop.  Isn’t he the ever so lucky guy?  One of the reasons I love Young Living is that they have great promotions.  Every month if you buy a certain amount of product you can qualify for the free product for that month.  That is how we got our Raindrop Kit.  I have only done a raindrop on him once before so I am far from an expert.  But I have heard that the most important part is getting the oils on so that they can get to work.  So that is what I did.  I followed the directions in the Essential Oils Desk Reference guide and got them on him.  Of course he was super relaxed when it was all done and I felt a wee bit guilty asking him to throw the oils on my back but he did  (thanks, sweets!).  And you know what, we were better in the morning.  He looked better and he felt better too. I was able to take a deep breath without  it being followed by a 20 minute coughing fit and I am also getting rid of lots of lovely stuff.  I know, ewwww, soooo gross, sorry for the details.  So, yeah, it definitely helped.  I bet by now you are really wondering what is a raindrop?  Well, as you may have figured out (cause you are a clever one, aren’t you), a raindrop is sort of like a massage with essential oils.  Well, kind of.  The raindrop technique was developed by Gary Young and includes 9 different essential oils (oregano, thyme, basil, marjoram, wintergreen, peppermint, cyprus, aroma seiz, & valor) as well as a vegetable oil, like Young Living’s V-6 blend.  The oils are dropped along the spine and lightly worked into the back.  The oils used are highly antimicrobial and antiviral.  In my experience the effect of a raindrop can be very cleansing, sort of like a detox.  I highly recommend getting and giving a raindrop, they are unlike any other massage I have ever had.  I noticed as I was giving the raindrop I was feeling better just by handling and inhaling the oils. Even though we are not 100% yet, we are getting there.  I am also using a combo of oregano and thyme in a capsule with a drop of extra virgin olive oil and that gave both of us some quick relief as well.  I’ll do some more of those tomorrow and I’ll do another raindrop and hopefully we can kick this cough to the curb by the weekend.

In her article, “The Best Breast Test“, Christiane Northrup, M.D. has renamed October Breast Health Awareness Month.  Don’t you think that is so much better than Breast Cancer Awareness Month?  Yes, of course finding a cure for breast cancer would be wonderful but let’s not wait around for that to happen.  Let’s start thinking about prevention.  Dr. Northrup talks about using thermography instead of mammograms as a more reliable method for the early detection of breast cancer.  Studies have shown that once cancer is able to be detected by a mammogram or by physical examination it has been growing for about 7 years.  7 years!?!  Just think of all the lifestyle changes that could have been made in that time if a woman with breast cancer had known earlier that something was amiss.  Thermography can detect “hot spots” in the body.  It sees changes on a cellular level way before a tumor has grown into something that nobody wants and becomes difficult to get rid of.  Here are some numbers that really jumped out at me about the way breast cancer progresses  - “At 90 days there are two cells, at one year there are 16 cells, and at five years there are 1,048,576 cells—an amount that is still undetectable by a mammogram.  (At 8 years, there are almost 4 billion cells.)”  Here is a post from CNN which illustrates the need for a more reliable test –  “When a mammogram isn’t enough”.  If breast cancer can be detected sooner rather than later there is so much more that can be done before women have to go through surgery, chemo or radiation.

According to Dr. Andrew Weil, diet also plays a role in prevention.  Here is a link to his website to see the article, “Lowering Breast Cancer Risk”.  Lifestyle changes like becoming more active and limiting exposure to xenoestrogens are helpful to reducing the risk.  Xenoestrogens are chemicals that mimic the effect of estrogens in our bodies.  They can be found in pesticides, dry cleaning & bleached feminine hygiene products.   I strongly encourage you to review this list of xenoestrogens and how to avoid them.  Dr. Weil also suggests eating generous amount of fruits and vegetables (and I would include as many as possible from the list from my post on Sept. 21 “Eating Away Cancer”), adding more fiber everyday, consuming green tea and very little, if any, alcohol.

So what about essential oils?  How can they be used to support a healthy lifestyle?  There have been studies that show that frankincense is very effective at shutting cancer down (see this BBC article).  There have also been over 50 clinical studies that show that a natural occurring constituent in many citrus oils and in frankincense oil called “d-limonene” has shown to not only inhibit tumor growth but to also regress tumor growth!  To me that is just so amazing.  A natural substance with no horrible side effects can very possibly be a cure for cancer.  In order to duplicate the studies a person would need to consume about 2/3 of a 15 ml bottle of pure therapeutic grade orange oil which contains about 90% of d-limonene.  Personally, for prevention I add citrus oils like lemon, orange, or grapefruit to my water everyday.  It adds a wonderful flavor so I end up drinking more of it and it also adds the benefits that come with citrus essential oils like d-limonene and immune system support.  Of course, I am speaking of Young Living Oils.  I know and trust the oils I get from Young Living and I cannot speak of the quality of oils from other suppliers.  Below is a piece written by Vicki Opfer, who is a Crown Diamond distributor with Young Living.  Vicki studied with the renowned herbalist, Hanna Kroeger, before she found Young Living Essential Oils and is very well versed in the many benefits of using natural remedies for improving health.

When I joined Young Living I was not only skeptical about network marketing, I was also critical of it.  Today, I believe that network marketing offers us an opportunity unlike any that has been available in the history of mankind.

I have a story to tell you that will explain why I believe this to be true.  Some time ago, I had an opportunity to speak with a woman in Iowa, who is a chiropractor.  Dr. Peters told me that she had been concerned because of a family history of breast cancer.  She had gotten a mammogram, but felt, like I did, that mammograms may damage breast tissue.  So she found a doctor in California who offered thermal imaging of breasts, and flew to CA to have this done.  Unfortunately, the doctor found a number of “hot spots” and told her that he would want to re-examine her in 4 months.  She went back for a second visit, with the same results – a number of hot spots that the Dr. planned to monitor, and he asked that she come back again in 4 months.

Within a few weeks, Gary Young was in Iowa, speaking about the oils.  Gary presented research by Dr. Jamie Matta, which had also been presented at the annual Young Living convention, describing the combination of frankincense oil with other oils such as sandalwood, tsuga, and myrtle, which were documented as oils that may prevent cancer.

Dr. Peters bought these 4 oils.  Each day, morning and evening, she would put a few drops of the frankincense in her hand, and add one of the other three oils, and then apply this to her breasts.  She used the frankincense every day, and alternated in the other oils.  In four months, when she went back to California for her check up, the doctor did not find any significant hot spots in her breasts.  The doctor was amazed and wanted to know how this had happened.  I was asked to give him an introductory lecture by phone so that he would understand why this might have happened.

The doctor has considered doing a small research study with 30 women to see whether he can duplicate these results in other patients, and, if the results are good, doing a larger study with 300 women.

Isn’t that exciting?  Well, there’s something even more exciting to me!  While I am absolutely thrilled that the doctor will be validating the effects of the oils, I can begin to share this story with people today, and person to person, we can get this vital information out to as many people as possible – think of it!!!  What if we could even prevent 10% of the breast cancer cases that occur?  Wouldn’t that be wonderful?  That would make everything that we do worthwhile!!!    Now, THAT is the power of NETWORK MARKETING!!! ~ Vicki Opfer

I got the secret sauce!

Most of the posts on this blog are based on studies or newspaper articles showing how essential oils can help us live a healthier life.  All of that is really important to me but, at the end of the day, what matters to me most is my family.  When I do something or find something that helps my family I feel like I have done my job well.  I feel like I got the brass ring so to speak.

Just over two weeks ago my son, who is 5 years old, fell at school while he was at recess and broke his nose.  Thanks to the lousy reception I get on my phone I did not get any messages for some time.  There I am at the gym just getting into a run on the treadmill, thinking of going a bit longer than usual, when I finally get a text from my husband saying he is on his way to urgent care. Needless to say I’m in my car in 60 seconds driving 5 mph in the pouring rain (Seriously???? I live in the desert!!!! ).

I get there and they are in x-ray so I have to wait a few more minutes.  It’s been almost 2 hours since the accident and it is such a relief for all of us, me, my husband and my son when I finally do see him.  I give him a big hug and just hold him for a bit, and when we were all settled I took out my "secret sauce".  On my drive up I was trying to remember what essential oils I had with me and I was hoping that I had lavender because that has worked so well with bruises and swelling in the past.  When I opened my bag I realized all I had was a bottle of valor.  When I was at convention Dr. Minke noted how good valor was for bruises and swelling so I had faith in it even though I had not used it before for that purpose.  Immediately, and I really mean immediately, after putting a drop, maybe two, ofvalor on his face, both my husband and I could see that some of the swelling went down.

There really isn’t anything they can do for a broken nose, they don’t set it and there is no cast to help it mend.  After trying to give him some Tylenol, which he has never liked, they said there was nothing else they could do.  It was too late for ice, which he would not have taken anyway, so we finished the paper work and headed home. Over the next week I went on to use either valor, lavender or copaiba on him when ever I could.  Basically, I used whatever I had near him when I thought about it.  Of course, it took some time for all the swelling to go and of course he did get some purple bruises around his eyes.  But, in less than two weeks his nose had set and the Dr. said it would take about 4.  His teachers, the ENT Dr., the nurses and many others have all commented on how quickly he has healed and how surprised they were that the swelling and bruising weren’t worse.  I smile and say to myself – I got the secret sauce!

9/22/10 I put some more oil on him when we got home.

9/26/10 Out for some gelato with his big sister.  Note the dark spots on his nose, cheeks and chin are chocolate not bruising!           10/6/10 All better and as cheeky as ever!

The mighty power of Thieves. How Young Living Oils can help you survive the cold and flu season

When I started with Young Living I would constantly hear about the Thieves blend and how amazing it was.  Really, all the hype kinda bugged me.  Then I used the stuff and as they say “the proof is in the pudding”.   So what’s so great about thieves?  So glad you asked!

The Thieves blend has a great story behind it so let’s start there.  Back in the middle ages, during the plague, there were a bunch of spice merchants who were locked in a town.  Unable to move on to sell their spices elsewhere they went about robbing from the dead and the dying.  Once they were captured the king offered them a most generous deal – spill the beans on how they were able keep from getting sick and he would give them a quick death instead of a long slow painful one.  Very generous offer don’t you think?  So they told the king which herbs they used and the king posted the recipe for all to see.  The ingredients that those thieves used is now bottled by Young Living and is the basis for the entire Thieves line.

I know some people who use the Thieves blend nearly every day and who have not gotten any major cold or flu in years (Hi Mom!).  I use it on a seasonal and as-needed basis.  If the kids have a sneeze or a sniffle that I think might be the beginning of something, out comes the Thieves.  I will put a drop or two on their feet and I will diffuse it while they watch tv.  If I hear that there is something going around at their school, again, out comes the Thieves.  It is so much easier to put a drop on each foot before they get dressed for school than having them stay home because they are sick.  I use it if I feel the slightest hint of a sore throat.  Even if I were to get a full-blown flu I would want Thieves by my side because I know whatever I have will go away much, much faster with it than without it.

How do you use Thieves?

Put a couple of drops on your feet or, if you have a sore throat, on your neck as well.  Repeat as needed.   Once a day is fine for prevention but if you already have a bug use it as often as you can.

Diffuse, diffuse, diffuse!!!  If anyone in your home gets sick or if you want to prevent sickness in the first place, then the thing to do is to diffuse Thieves.  Why?  It is clinically proven to kill those nasty bugger germs.  So if one person gets sick you will be helping them to get better faster and you will be protecting the healthy ones from getting it.

Internal consumption – Thieves can be put directly on the tongue (can you handle the Thieves?!), it can be added to water or you can put a few drops in a capsule, size “00″, and ingest.  When fighting colds or the flu many people add oregano to the capsules as well.  I would start with 3 drops of oils and you could add olive oil to the capsule if you like.  Young Living also makes a supplement called Inner Defense which is Thieves plus oregano, thyme and a few other ingredients.  Another terrific blend!

I do not recommend consuming any other essential oils other than Young Living.  Please see my “Why choose Young Living” page for more details about oil quality.  Even if the label says it is “100% pure”  it probably isn’t the case.  Unless you know the company and trust its oils, do not consume them internally.

I talk about Thieves and mold in my Sept. 24th post “Why essential oils work best for mold” and I also talk about the Thieves cleaning products in the “How dirty is your soap?” post from Sept. 9th.

Young Living has a fantastic promotion going on until the end of October.  If you place an order of 175pv in merchandise, Young Living will send you a 15ml bottle of Thieves as well as a Thieves hand sanitizer and a Thieves spray.  Please see the “Monthly Promotions” page for details.  Also, please see the “How to order Young Living Oils” page if you would like to get started with Young Living.

Here’s to hoping you and yours stay healthy this cold and flu season.

Why Essential Oils Work Best For Mold

I found this on the Young Living Blog.  Dr. Close wrote the book “Nature’s Mold RX,  The non-toxic solution to your toxic mold”

Francine

As a scientist, I ask a lot of questions and have a natural curiosity about why things work the way they do. When I first heard that essential oils were nature’s original medicine, I was skeptical. Even though my family had experienced definite benefits from their usage, I was not fully satisfied with the answers I heard about why essential oils should work in the human body. Young Living Founder Gary Young said that essential oils are the lifeblood of the plant, but while I can see that essential oils serve a similar purpose in plants as blood does in the human body, we are not plants. So why should oils distilled from plant materials be so beneficial to human beings? Gary pointed out that essential oils carry vital nutrients to cells, cleanse cells and receptor sites, and oxygenate the blood. I was intrigued and I could see that, due to their ability to transport oxygen into the system, essential oils might have effects similar to hyperbaric treatments which provide oxygen to cells and tissues to reduce pain and promote rapid healing.

Why do essential oils work so well for humans? To my surprise, studying mold-related illness and understanding why oils are so effective against mold and bacteria has supplied the answer to this question. Consider this: When a living organism dies, mold along with other microorganisms attack the body to break it down into compounds for food. This is a natural process that continually recycles organic materials on our planet. The difference between mold and the scavengers we usually think of, like vultures, is that molds (fungi) do not care whether you are alive or dead—they are attacking you all the time. Right now, in fact, they are doing what they do best, trying to reduce your body to useable food stuff!

Why are essential oils so beneficial and work so well in and on our bodies? They are the plants’ natural immune system! They destroy microorganisms that destroy plants, and those same microorganisms can do us great harm. I am continuing to collect scientific data on the results of using essential oils to eliminate bacteria and mold. That data, collected over the past five years, provides scientific evidence that Young Living essential oils are the best defense available against toxic mold and mold-related illnesses.
