Peppermint Oil for Symptoms of Irritable Bowel -NYT article

Here is a link to a recent NYT’s article about the positive effects peppermint oil has on symptoms such as abdominal pain, bloating and frequent trips to the bathroom. Millions of  Americans are effected by Irritable Bowel Syndrome and they don’t always find relief through the more traditional uses of prescription drugs, fiber supplements and laxatives.  Studies have shown that  peppermint oil, when consumed twice daily in capsule form ,for a period of one to three months, relieves the symptoms of I.B.S in 74 percent of the patients.

Peppermint has long been known as an aid to digestion and can also help people who have milder stomach upsets.  My husband and I will add a drop or two to our water bottles if we have indigestion or other stomach pain.  We also use it to help keep us cool during our long, hot, desert summers and since peppermint is also an appetite suppressant I always seem to eat a little less on the days when I have peppermint in my water.

I have to add that when consuming essential oils it is important to know that the oil is a pure, unadulterated, undiluted pure essential oil.  I will always only recommend using Young Living Oils especially if you intend to ingest them.   Please see my “Why Choose Young Living Oils” page for more information on the importance of using therapeutic grade essential oils.

And if you are ready to start enjoying the benefits of essential oils please see my “How to Order Young Living Oils” page for more information.
