Young Living Essential Oils New Products!

Young Living had their annual convention last month, which I missed – sadness.  I have consoled myself by checking out the newest products that are now available.  I always look forward to my auto ship order but now I will be adding a new product each month.  It’s so like Christmas in July!  Now, which to choose first?  mmmmm……

Very excited about the new ART products and the slique gum sounds interesting too.

Even for those not wanting to lose weight chewing the gum, which contains frankincense, will be beneficial to oral health. Decisions, decisions!

By the way, I have updated the virtual catalog page on this site with the new 2012 catalog.  Young Living has just introduced new packaging so some of the products will have the older style and some will have the new.

Here is a link to the Young Living new products page if you would like to take a look at the new offerings.

Ningxia Red + Your Freezer = Ahhhhhhh!

Here in the desert it’s already getting hot.  It’s still only April but we have already hit the 100 degree mark.  I know – ugh!  It’s probably not that hot where you live (lucky, lucky you!)  but let’s face it – summer is coming.   So here is a summer tip for you.  My friend, Melissa, turned me onto this last summer.  I’ll let you decide if this post is early or late!

One thing I really like about my kids school is that they do get out for recess and breaks a couple of times during the day.  Which is great because I think kids need that and our old school in Brooklyn did not let them out as much.  Problem is somedays it is really, really  hot.  Enter Ningxia Red packs.  I love these handy, dandy packs for their lunch boxes.  It’s a great way to get a high antioxident whole fruit juice into their diet.  It’s nutrient dense and low in sugar.  Hurrah!  Once the heat arrives I throw the packs in the freezer and whamo, bamo instant frozen slushie fruity treat!  Thanks Melissa – so genius!

Enzymes, Hormones & My Skin. A Story.

In this story you will read about how giving birth, dealing with meltdowns and receiving salvation (for my skin at least) all come together with a happy ending!

One of my first aha moments with Young Living came quite unexpectedly as I was getting a spa treatment a few years ago.  I was living in Brooklyn and  bought a groupon for a facial at a day spa in Tribeca.  I had recently re-discovered Young Living and I was using a few products mostly for my kids at bedtime.  One of the oils that I had on hand was Gentle Baby.  I will never forget how I used Gentle Baby one night when my son was over tired and hungry.  I was amazed as he transformed from a crying, screaming toddler having a meltdown to a calm child able to eat his dinner after I put a couple of drops of Gentle Baby on my hand and then on his head.  Even though the blend was developed for infants I had read in my Desk Reference book that it was also good for skin.  I have always loved the smell, very soothing and calming, and I hoped that just maybe it could also help my skin so it became part of my night time routine.

For me getting a facial is a treat.  However, whenever I did go I would usually get a small lecture from the esthetician.  She would tell me that my skin is dry, I had too many age spots and, of course, wrinkles….yada yada.  The last esthetician I saw, before my groupon,  did not even wait to get me on the table before she started to tell me how bad my skin was. Honestly, she wasn’t telling me anything I didn’t already know.  I knew that I wasn’t taking care of my skin at that time.  I had not found products that I liked, could afford, or had found to be effective so I wasn’t doing much to support having healthy skin and it showed.  When I got on the table, at my groupon spa,  and out comes the big scary bright magnifying glass I was ready for what was about to be said.  At least I thought I was.  But then the conversation went something like this….

Her (inspecting my skin) – Your skin looks good.

Me – What?  Wait.  Really?!!

Her – Yeah, nice elasticity, some age spots.  But overall it looks good.

Me – Seriously?!  Elasticity?  That’s not what I usually hear.  (Then I paused and pondered.)  You know I’ve been using this essential oil blend.  I think it might have helped my skin.

Her – Could be.  What oil?

Me – It’s a blend called Gentle Baby….

Her (interrupting me) – I know Gentle Baby!  We’re going to start doing prenatal massage using Gentle Baby next month.  I love……

We then went on to talk about the oils we love and which ones are good for skin, like lemon & sandalwood.  It always amazed me that of all the day spas in NYC I found an esthetician that knew about and used Young Living herself.  I was also amazed at how an oil, that had helped me soothe and calm my kids would also be great for my skin!  How awesome is that?  Grand plans of ordering vats of Gentle Baby so that I could see a bit more "elasticity" in places where the sun doesn’t shine also crossed my mind, but sadly, never came to fruition.

Ok so what does any of this have to do with enzymes, hormones and my skin?  Hang on I’m getting there.  I was having more break outs at 43 than I did at 13.  Ugh.  I knew my hormones were out of whack but I didn’t know what to do about it.  Essential oils like lemon & lavender helped to ease the break outs but what I was needing was something that could stop them from starting in the first place.  That’s when I read a a post on Gary Young’s blog mentioning that enzymes could help with hormones.  Really??!!  I was surprised to read how many of us, especially women who have given birth, need more protein enzymes in their diet to support hormone health.  I had been a vegetarian from the age of 14 until just before my daughter was born when I was 35.  I’m still not much of a fan of meat, unless, of course, it’s bacon (I know, I know) so my diet definitely lacks in animal proteins.   Now, and this is where the Gentle Baby story comes in, I had used YL products long enough and had experienced enough surprise benefits that I was willing to give the enzymes a go.  Even though I had not researched or had heard any other mention of enzymes supporting hormone health prior to reading that blog post.

Results?  I am most happy to say my skin is looking faaaabulousss!  Once I started using the essentialzyme-4 and the ART skin care system I noticed an almost immediate improvement.  What had been an escalating problem of break out after break out just stopped.  One word – AWESOME!!!!!   I have been using both products for a couple of months and my skin not only looks better to me but also feels better.  I only just recently had a couple pop up and I think I know why.  I ran out of the essentialzyme-4 ( my husband also discovered the benefits of enzymes so now I have to share :)  )and I think the lapse in using them made a difference in my skin.  As a note, Young Living has two different enzymes that sound similar.  Essentialzyme & essentialzyme-4. I prefer the essentialzyme-4.  I can’t tell you what the formula difference is between the two only that I like the essentialzyme-4 better for me.  I usually just take it once a day, at night because that’s when I remember and I also read that taking enzymes after a big meal will help you sleep better (one more awesome benefit of these awesome enzymes).

I know that in the scope of things having bad skin is a minor problem but this was something that caused me stress and discomfort.  Not only that but it was also a clear indication that something else was out of balance.  I just love that I was able to take care of my health, and hormone health is very important, naturally.  Once again Young Living had an answer to a problem I had no idea I was going to have. Awesome, seriously awesome.

CBS News Report – Young Living Oils and UCLA Cancer Therapy

Below is a link to a CBS news story about how Young Living oils and other non traditional forms of therapy are helping cancer patients.  Currently, two hospitals, UCLA & Beth Israel, have partnered with the Urban Zen Institute.  Urban Zen trains nurses in aromatherapy and enlists other professional to use alternative therapies like aromatherapy, massage and yoga to help cancer patients deal with stress, pain, nausea, insomnia and constipation.   Urban Zen does not use just any essential oils – they only use Young Living Essential Oils.    Peace & Calming is mentioned in the video and it is a great oil to use to ease stress and anxiety.  I like to use Peace & Calming at night if I can’t sleep either on myself or on my kids.  I have also used it when I feel stressed or when my kids are cranky.  It is one of our must have oils.

Bugs are Smart!

They have a pretty good track record of surviving harsh environments, plagues and what not so I think it is safe to assume that they really know how to adapt to new situations.  Although I can admire bugs, in a National Geographic kind of way, I still don’t want them in my house or on my body.  Ick!

That is why I am concerned about our over use of antibiotics in this country.  Patients expect something to relieve them of their ills and, unfortunately, doctors over prescribe antibiotics as a modern day cure all.  What we have done is given the bugs the answers to the test.  If we gave our kids the same exact test day after day, year after year, eventually they would know all the answers really, really well.  They would even be able to give us the answers before we gave them the test.  That is what we are doing with antibiotics.  The bugs know the answers and they are no longer waiting for the test they are now in the process of changing the test.  They have gone from students to teachers because now we are the ones trying to catch up.  Anyone that has experienced an MRSA infection or knows someone that has knows that this is not only a real problem it is one that is growing. I’ve done other posts about this problem and you can use the search box found at the upper right hand corner of this page to find those articles.

What to do?  It’s really so simple – stop using antibiotics for everything!  I heard this story on NPR this morning.  In it they discuss how antibiotics are used for sinus infections even though those infections are viral not bacterial.  Studies have shown that antibiotics are not effective in treating a virus and yet 1 out of every 5 prescriptions are for sinusitis.  The study mentioned in the story used 166 patients with sinus infections.  Half were given a placebo and half were given antibiotics.  The results found that by day 3 there were no differences between the groups.  The people on the placebo had the same outcome as those taking the antibiotics.  Where does that leave the patient with the symptoms?  Suffer it out? Not at all.  Of course there are over the counter meds but I have my concerns about those as well.  There are always ways to ease symptoms with safe, effective and natural remedies.  My family and I have successfully used essential oils for sinus infections and we would never use anything else.

Which oils to use?  For any kind of infection, either bacterial or viral,  I always use first thieves.  I diffuse it and I put it on the bottom of my feet.  Thieves is a remarkable blend that will help you get back to feeling better quickly.  For sinus pressure I often use peppermint. I put a drop on my hand, rub my hands together, cup them over nose and inhale.  By the way, that’s awesome to do even if you don’t have a sinus infection.  Clears the passages and the mind!  It’s quite the rush!

Breathe Again roll on is also amazing for sinus relief.   It quickly relieves sinus pressure and opens passages.  Many people are familiar with eucalyptus but you could also use Raven, R.C. or Melrose.  Inhale directly, like the peppermint or in a diffuser.  You can also apply to the area of discomfort.  One note of caution is to be careful to avoid the eye area.  I like to put a small drop of either Breathe Again or peppermint right under my nose to help clear nasal passages. I’ve also gargled with thieves and if by chance I don’t have thieves or if I want to change it up a bit I use tea tree oil.  I love alternating oils – good to keep those bugs guessing!

Do you have any favorite home remedies for sinus infections?  Post below in the comments or on my facebook page.

Um.. Hi! Remember Me?!

Ok, so it’s been a while since I’ve lasted posted.  Back in October I was planning on making some changes to the blog but then life sort of got in the way.  A very good friend of mine came for a visit and by the time he left I had decided to open an Etsy store selling vintage items.  My love for vintage got re-ignited and I’ve been having fun filling the shop with great vintage finds.  I grew up going to antique shows and flea markets and when I lived in Manhattan I was just blocks away from the famed 26th St. Market. I still have treasures from there where the above friend and I would spend many Saturday mornings going from booth to booth looking for something that caught our eye.  There is a link on the sidebar to see some of the items in my shop or here is a link to HotCoolVintage if you want have a peek.

I’ve also just started pinning!  OMG, very fun and highly addictive (you’ve been warned)!  Are you scratching your head and wondering what is pinning?  I just joined Pinterest (Pin Interest) and have made a few boards.  My favorite so far is my Young Living board.  I just love having a place to collect all the amazing things I find around the web including YL oils and my Etsy shop, as well as the places I’ve been and where I want to go.  I’ve just started but I know I will be filling in many more boards to come.  I’ve added a link on the sidebar so you can follow me or here is a link to my home page if you want to check it out.  You can follow all my boards or just my Young Living board.

Ok, enough about all that other stuff lets talk oils!  Of course, just because I haven’t been blogging does not mean I have not been using my oils.  Not a chance!  Actually, I’ve got loads of tips I want to share but I’m just going to talk about Di-Gize & M-Grain today.  I’m fairly new to Di-Gize and so I haven’t used it that much.  Di-Gize is one of those oils that I have on hand for when we need it.  It is to be used for digestion, upset stomachs, bloating, gas pains or nausea.  Recently, I woke up feeling just ick – headache and upset tummy. Ugh.  Later that day my daughter and I were scheduled to participate in our Girl Scout Troop cookie booth.  Being cookie Mom for our troop I had all the cookies, the table and everything else we needed.  I was at the point where I was walking around with a bucket hoping that I would throw up soon!  Finally, it hits me Di-Gize!  I put a couple of drops on my stomach and hurrah, nausea cleared.  Di-Gize saves the day!  So ridiculously fast and easy.  I used  M-Grain for my headache and my daughter and I were able to do the cookie booth after all.  Simple, effective, easy!

I’ve used Di-Gize on my kids and even though they don’t like the smell it does soothe their tummies.  I like to sneak beans into my tomato sauce.  My son, who would never in a million years eat a bean unless it was well disguised, is not used to them.  He usually gets a bit of gas afterwards so I use a drop of Di-Gize to relieve the discomfort quickly.  Works every time.    It can be used on young or old and it can be diluted with the V-6 if needed.  Di-Gize can also be taken internally to relieve digestion discomfort.

M-Grain is one of my favorite headache remedies.  It really depends on where I’m standing and what’s in reach when I realize I need relief. I’ve had this bottle of M-Grain for years.  Like over 10 years!  Still safe and still effective even after all that time ( a m a z i n g)!  M-Grain was formulated specifically to help relieve migraine and stress headaches.  If I don’t have M-Grain in reach I use Pan-Away.  Both work well for me but if I didn’t have either of those on hand I would use peppermint or lavender or stress away.  That is why these oils are just so amazing – one oil or blend can wear many hats.

Young Living Sacred Frankincense and Breast Cancer Pub Med Study Results

On October 7, 2011 I posted a video with Dr. Mahmoud Suhail describing results from cancer studies using Boswellia Sacra (Sacred Frankincense) on cancer.  See this link for the video.  The results are amazing and now there is a Pub Med study reporting those findings.  Click here if you would like to read the study.  Below are the conclusions.

"Similar to our previous observations in human bladder cancer cells, Boswellia sacra essential oil induces breast cancer cell-specific cytotoxicity. Suppression of cellular network formation and disruption of spheroid development of breast cancer cells by Boswellia sacra essential oil suggest that the essential oil may be effective for treating advanced breast cancer. Consistently, the essential oil represses signaling pathways and cell cycle regulators that have been proposed as therapeutic targets for breast cancer. Future pre-clinical and clinical studies are urgently needed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of Boswellia sacra essential oil as a therapeutic agent for treating breast cancer."

Amazing, right?!  What Bosellia Sacra does is kill cancer cells, what it does not do is kill healthy cells!  That is exactly what medicine should do.  Simple I know, but true.  Last October I wrote a post, "Breast Health Awareness Month"  have a look for more ideas on natural cancer prevention with tips from Dr. Christiane Northrup, Dr. Andrew Weil, and Vicki Opfer, a Young Living Crown Diamond.

Dr. H. K. Lin who was a part of this study as well as others on frankincense and cancer has suggested that taking frankincense as a preventative would be a good idea.  I personally use frankincense daily.  If I had a history of cancer in my family it would be a definite.  Why wait until it’s too late?

A new year is just around the corner.  Make it a healthy & happy one and get started with Young Living today.  So many different options to choose from too!  If you want to jump in (the best way) then start with the essential oil starter kit.  The kit includes one 5 ml bottle of frankincense as well as eight other delicious and amazing oils.  If you would rather start with a toe in the water then you could try one or two oils like lavender or sacred frankincense.  Go here to order. Smoothiliciousness (or the Appliance that Stole my Heart).

I am not ashamed to say that I am in the midst of a full-on love affair with an appliance.  My husband is well aware, and in fact quite supportive, of my new love. Actually, I think he’s got his own crush going on as well.   I am not one to "fall" for anything with a cord you know.  I like my refrigderator and I tolerate my oven.  I thought I was in love with my washer and dryer but  I now realize that was a mere school girl crush.  Honestly, seeing my new blender on my counter makes me swoon just a bit.

I wish I could say that I am exaggerating a little bit but I’m not.  If anything I am restraining myself from gushing even more.  This blender has changed my life!  Dramatic I know, but so true.  I have always been a fruit and veg kind of girl.  I was a vegetarian for over 20 years and if there was no such thing as bacon, I would probably still be one today.  I now consider myself to be a flexitarian.  Which means I can eat meat (bacon) with just a little bit of guilt.  Even though I love my veggies, cleaning them, preparing them and cooking them takes time and effort.  At least that was before my new love showed up.  Now all I have to do is throw a bunch of veg and or fruit in my blender, hit a button, and in a blink I have a fresh, yummy, nutrient-rich drink.

A M A Z I N G!!

You may be wondering how a blender has anything to do with essential oils?  As you may have noticed this site is called Young Living Life.  When I found Young Living Essential Oils it became quite clear to me that I had found a company that supported the type of lifestyle that I had been looking for.  I found a way to take care of myself and my family with safe & natural products that healed our hurts and supported a healthier way of living.   As a mom, really as a human being, I feel like part of the deal of living on this earth is to be always wanting more.  Not in the sense of the latest this or that but more life out of life.  Better health, more vitality, more fun, more joy…….I want more of those for myself and my family.  Young Living is the only company I have ever found whose products support my family in that way.  The products enhance our wellbeing.  That is really quite something.  This blender is just one stop that I’ve made along the way that also supports my goal of better health for myself and my family.

Of course the two mix in another way.  I have been using 1-2 ounces of Ningxia Red in my drinks which adds a great taste as well as an extra antioxidant boost and I’ve added orange oil to a mixed berry smoothie.  I’ve also used peppermint oil to make a chocolate mint ice cream.  Definitely yum!

Below is a recipe from Dr. Oz.  He is a big believer in the power of the green smoothie.  I recommend using either a Blendtec blender or a Vitamix blender.  Yes, these machines are expensive but they are absolutely worth the price.  You will use them over and over and they will do things a "normal" blender just can’t do.  For instance I was able to make "ice cream" for my kids after school today.  I added heavy cream (yes, I know but it is ice cream after all), whey powder (sweetened with stevia), unsweetened chocolate, agave, vanilla and 1 cup of spinach!  The first question my son asked was if I put anything green in the ice cream.  Of course I lied.  My picky eater ate it all up and said it was the best ice cream that we had made yet.  Which it was (just don’t tell my husband that).

I half this recipe and I only added 2 stalks of celery.  This is a very green drink if you haven’t tried a green smoothie before add more apples or other fruit like grapes to sweeten it a bit.  I loved it and plan on having it every morning.  Also, please use organic produce.  Celery is on the dirty dozen list and I recently read how "dirty" (covered in pesticide residue) parsley is.  Core the apples but leave the skin on.

Make the breakfast drink that Dr. Oz swears by! This "green drink" is high in fiber, low-calorie and rich in vitamins.

Ingredients
2 cups spinach
2 cups cucumber
1 head of celery
1/2 inch or teaspoon ginger root
1 bunch parsley
2 apples
Juice of 1 lime
Juice of 1/2 lemon

Directions

Combine all ingredients in a blender. This makes approximately 28-30 ounces, or 3-4 servings.

Dr. Mahmoud Suhail on Frankincense

Below is a new video from Young Living that features Dr. Mahmoud Suhail discussing  his current research using Boswellia Sacra.  Young Living is the only essential oil company that bottles Boswellia Sacra (as Sacred Frankincense).

About halfway through Dr. Suhail cites two different cancer cases from pre-clinical trials happening in Oman and Northern Africa.  The results are very exciting.  In one case the carcinoembryonic antigen was 210.  A reading of 10-20 is high (mostly likely that you would have cancer).  A reading of more than 20 would indicate metastases for certain.  Carcinoembryonic antigen went from 210 -18 in less than 21 days and the primary tumor disappeared in an additional 3-4 weeks!   So many people are affected by cancer.  Please watch this video and share it with others.
