Let Them Try To Guess Your Age.

We all know that if we want to delay the aging process we should eat healthy meals, exercise, limit sweets, get plenty of rest and drink lots of water everyday….yada, yada, yada.  Of course there are those days, sometimes more often than not, when we don’t do some of those things and then there are those days when we don’t do any of those things.   Here are a few simple tips about some key ingredients to add to your lifestyle to help you put off adding a few new wrinkles and to give you an extra boost in staying healthy and feeling great.

Antioxidants

What are they?   Vitamins, minerals and enzymes, that protect our cells from damage caused by free radicals.  Nutrients, like vitamins A, C and E,  from foods and enzymes like catalase, superoxide dismutase.

What do they do? They inhibit oxidation in our bodies.  Oxidation can produce free radicals.  Free radicals can damage cells.  Damaged cells can lead to aging, cancer, heart disease and diabetes.  Antioxidants can also reduce inflammation (which can lead to many other diseases)  and may help keep the skin supple and bright.  Supple & bright!

Natural sources: Spicescloves, cinnamon, oregano.  Fruits – wolfberries, blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, pomegranates.  Vegetables – spinach, kale, red cabbage, red beets, brussels sprouts.  Dry Fruits – apricots, raisins, prunes.  Nuts and Seeds – peanuts, pecans, walnuts, hazelnuts.

YL Products to try: Ningxia Red!  Ningxia Red is packed with antioxidants and contains the whole fruit purée of the Ningxia wolfberry and a powerful juice blend of blueberries, raspberries, apricots & pomegranates. Packs 180 mg Vitamin C per 1 oz serving!  NR supports immune function, liver function, eye health (my eyesight improved after drinking one bottle over 5 days).  My husband and I find that we have increased energy and it helps to reduce sugar cravings.  Click here for more Ningxia Red product info. You can also purchase dried Ningxia Wolfberries.  These are wonderful to add to salads, oatmeal, baked goods or any other way you would like to get an extra dose of antioxidants.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids

What are they?  Essential unsaturated fatty acids.  Our bodies need these good fats to function normally and to stay healthy.  We do not make these fatty acids so we must get them from our diet.

What do they do?  Omega-3s are known to reduce inflammation; support heart health; reduce stiffness & joint pain, like in Rheumatoid Arthritis; supports heathy brain function; and provides a healthy glow to skin.  Healthy glow!

Natural sources:  Fish like anchovies, mackerel, salmon (wild has more omega-3s than farmed), and tuna are high in DHA and EPA.  ALA can be found in flax, walnuts and olive oil.  Ideally, you want to have a combination of all 3 types of fatty acids in your diet.

YL Products to try:  Omega Blue is a great source of DHA, EPA and ALA.  Omega Blue is pure fish oil that is free of PCBs and dioxins.  Young Living is the only company that adds an essential oil blend to enhance the stability of the fish oil and to provide other benefits.  Blue chamomile & myrrh support a healthy inflammatory response, lemongrass oil provides cardiovascular protection and supports healthy cholesterol levels and clove and myrrh are added for extra antioxidant benefits.  See the link for more information on Omega Blue.

Resveratrol

What is it?  A natural phenol that is found in the skin of red grapes and other plants.

What does it do?  Studies are now being done on the benefits of resveratrol.  Many believe, and Dr. Oz is among them, that resveratrol may inhibit cancer; increase longevity; enhance energy; prevent diseases like diabetes and heart disease.  Resveratrol also helps to fight environmental toxins that can cause wrinkles.  Wrinkles!

Natural sources:  Peanuts and peanut butter, red grapes, red wine, red grape juice, cranberry juice.

YL Products to try:  True Source is a multivitamin that is packed with super food powders and whole food vitamins and minerals.  It is unlike any other multivitamin on the market.  In addition to a broad spectrum of vitamins and minerals that you would want in a multivitamin supplement, True Source also contains resveratrol, wolfberries, and MSM.  Each packet contains 3 vitamins, one purple, one green, and one yellow.  You can take them all at once or through out the day.  Here is the link for more information on True Source.

Many people reach for a coffee and a cookie or an energy drink to give them an afternoon boost.  But what if you didn’t need a boost?  What if you felt good all day long AND your skin looked better as well?  I just read this quote from Dr. Oz today "Glowing skin isn’t only genetic.  Healthy choices count just as much." For $3.50 a day you can start making some healthy choices that will support you on the inside and the outside.  A much better deal than a a double caff-no foam-carmel-latte,  don’tcha think?  Even if you used these products every other day you would be much better off than not using them at all.

Ready to feel better, look better and start giving your body nutrients and supplements that will improve your wellbeing?  Oh, good!  See my "How to Order Young Living Oils" page or just go here.

Back to school! Friends, Field Trips, Projects……..Germs!

As kids are heading back to school this week, many mothers know it is just a matter of time before the first sick day arrives.  Here, in the desert, we’ve been back at school long enough that the initial excitement has worn off and our new routine no longer feels new.

School is great.  So much to learn, so many ways to grow, so many germs  to be shared.  In these few short weeks, I’ve already heard of both teachers and students taking sick days.  These school germs are all business.  We know that eating a balanced diet and getting enough rest helps all of us stay healthy.  The thing is …… have you met my kids?  If you have, then you probably know that one is a picky eater (I’m still not sure how that happened) and the other rarely sleeps past 5 am (seriously, not joking!).

Even though I work at home, the last thing I want is a phone call from the nurse telling me my kid is sick.  If you work outside of the home, I bet you get that phone call minutes before you are about to start a meeting.  Is there really anything we can do that can help prevent illness?  Well yes, I know there are things we can do to keep our kids healthy amidst the onslaught of school germs.  You know where this is going, right?

Essential oils!  They are my not-so-secret weapon.  Really, if they were a secret I certainly would not be blogging about them would I?  My kids get doused daily in as many ways as I can get the oils on them or in them.  To start, thieves is a mother’s best friend.  No mother should be without a bottle of this amazing oil.  You know how one kid gets sick, then the next, then it’s the adults turn?  That usually doesn’t happen in my house.  Wouldn’t it be better if when one person gets sick, you have something to kill airborne germs so that the entire household does not fold like a house of cards?  I know, silly question.  Of course we all want that.  There you go, thieves is your answer.  Diffuse it, wear it, ingest it and get on with your life.  It’s amazing!  So, step 1 is get thieves and use it.  Put it on their feet before school or put it on them before bed.  Just get it on them.  If my kids so much as sniffle, out comes my therapro diffuser (see here for the most awesomest diffuser ever and it comes with a 15 ml sized bottle of thieves – yay!).  Diffusing gives the kids a great dose of thieves while they are doing their homework or watching tv.  At the same time I’m killing airborne germs; it’s a total win-win.  Studies have shown that thieves kills lots of bad stuff.  Now I love studies but I know from experience that thieves works.  Proof is in the pudding and all you need is to be sick once and then feel better after using an essential oil as powerful as thieves to know this oil is the real deal.  You can see my testimonial page for how others have used thieves.  I can go on and on about thieves, actually I have!  If you put thieves in the search bar lots of posts will come up that go more into how I’ve used theives for cleaning, strep throat and much more.

Keeping sickness at bay is a good thing to start with but essential oils can do more than just that.  We use peppermint and lemon to help “wake up” their brains and to help them focus.  There are days when one or both of my kids do not like sitting down to do their homework (I’m sure they are the only ones out there with this problem).  I started using peppermint in the afternoon and it has really helped them focus so that they can get their work done much faster.  What a gift for all of us!  Studies have also shown that peppermint helps us to retain information. That will be handy come test time.  My daughter also loves to put lemon oil and orange oil in her (stainless steel) water bottle.  I love that because both oils will give her immune system a bit of a boost.  Take that, yucky germs!  My son (the picky eater) would never let me put lemon or orange oil in his water bottle but he does love Ningxia Red.  I freeze the individual packets and stick those in his lunch box.  Ningxia Red is a juice blend jam-packed with antioxidants and other nutrients that are a great support to the immune system and gives him a little energy boost for the rest of the afternoon.

In addition to all the wonderful, amazing, remarkable oils mentioned above I also like to give my kids something else to support them during the day.  Now, even though my kids are brilliant (I’m their mother, remember?) they have their off days – don’t we all?  Before they get on the bus I give each of them a drop of an oil called highest potential.  It is a great way to start the day.  I have seen my kids go from cranky and not wanting to leave the house to first one out the door with a drop of this oil.  Now that is a valuable tool to have at your disposal.  They each also have their favorite oils.  My son likes valor, which is a great oil, very grounding and perfect for a little boy in a big school.  My daughter loves stress away and joy.  Depending on her mood and what’s happening at school she usually picks one of these.  Stress away is great when she has to deal with challenging social moments and joy is just a great blend to enhance happiness.

There you go – thieves, peppermint, lemon, orange, valor, highest potential, stress away, joy,  ningxia red and don’t forget that awesome therapro diffuser.  Once you start using a diffuser you will wonder how you ever got by without it.  By the way, these oils are not just for the kids.  Oh, no!  Use them yourself and enjoy days with a little less stress and a little more energy.

Valor! Harmony! Joy! Angels!

Who would not want to start their day fortified with any of the above?  Years ago I heard about Gary Youngs’ recipe for a great day – which is valor, harmony, joy and white angelica.  I have used this combination of oils daily since that time and they have absolutely made a difference in my life.  I would describe myself as a happy, positive person.  However, before YL I would definitely have those times in my life where stress would get the best of me and I would fall into a funk.  I would not consider it a clinical depression but I would definitely call it a depressed period in my life.  Since using YL products and in particular this blend of oils everyday that just does not happen anymore – ever.  And to me, that is priceless.

These blends smell so good and are an amazing combination of oils.  I can’t even list what is in them – just too many, but this will give you some idea as to what is in these bottles of lovely.

  • Harmony has 16 single oils in it, including sandalwood, frankincense, ylang ylang and rose.
  • Joy has 10 different oils including bergamot, roman chamomile, rose and jasmine.
  • Valor has spruce, rosewood, blue tansy & frankincense.
  • White Angelica has 10 different oils including geranium, myrrh, rose & melissa. (Melissa and rose are among the most expensive oils)

I always smile when I hear “mmm…..what’s that smell?”  from those around me.  I’ve even seen people start taking big deep breaths – trying to get as much of the oils in as possible. That is how good these oils smell!

Below is what I do everyday.  If you are ready to give essential oils a try to see what they can do these oils are a great way to start.   Valor and Joy are free this month with a qualifying order and Harmony and White Angelica are 10% off.  See my promotions page for details.

Gary Young’s Great Day Protocol

  1. Start each day with Gary’s simple routine—and discover how happy and confident you feel!
  2. Place one drop of Valor on the inside of your left wrist. Hold the inside of your right wrist to your left wrist for a few minutes. This step balances the body.
  3. Apply a drop of Harmony to your solar plexus (the area just above your belly button) to calm your mind and promote positive feelings.
  4. Apply one drop of Joy to the area above your heart. This step helps bring happiness to your mind and body.
  5. Place a single drop of White Angelica in the palm of your hand and rub your hands together. Lightly brush both hands over your head, face, shoulders, chest, and down the rest of your body as though applying an angelic shield.
What’s your recipe for a great day?  If you have used these oils please share your experience with them.  If you use other oil or oils to start off your day we would love to hear about that as well.
Can’t wait to get started using Young Living Oils?  Great! See my “How to Order Young Living Oils” page for more details.

Lemon Aid for Haiti

Young Living Launches Lemon Aid for Haiti Essential Oil Drive

September 1, 2011

SALT LAKE CITY—September 1, 2011—Young Living is sponsoring Lemon Aid for Haiti, a large-scale lemon essential oil drive to benefit the people of Haiti. Following the country’s devastating earthquake in 2010, cholera spread quickly and remains a serious health concern. Lemon essential oil has proven cleansing effects, making it useful to those in need.

“Studies show that mixing lemon essential oil with food and water may reduce the spread of sickness. It is a versatile solution that can be used to clean and purify surfaces and air of disease-causing agents and is known to boost mood and immunity,” explains Doug Corrigan, product trainer at Young Living. “We want the people of Haiti to know they are not forgotten.”

To kick off the drive, Young Living will provide an initial donation of 1,000 bottles of lemon essential oil. Throughout September, Young Living will sponsor a one-for-one match on purchases of lemon essential oil. Distributors can participate by simply purchasing a 15-ml bottle of lemon essential oil with the special item No. 9400. That bottle will be contributed to the cause, along with Young Living’s matched donation. All contributions will be distributed in Haiti by medical professionals.

101 Uses for the Essential 7 Kit

The Essential 7 Kit was created by Young Living Essential Oils (YLEO) so that anyone could immediately use and appreciate the benefits of therapeutic-grade essential oils. The Kit contains three single oils: Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia), Lemon (Citrus limon) and Peppermint (Mentha piperita), and four oil blends: Joy, PanAway, Peace & Calming and Purification. All single oils may be used as dietary supplements. All of the oils may by diffused. The diffuser from YLEO is a special air pump that is custom designed to disperse the oils in a microfiber vapor. This allows the oils to stay suspended in the air to reduce bacteria, fungi and mold. It also freshens the air with natural fragrances, eliminating the need for synthetic, harmful air fresheners. The diffuser disperses the oils without heat, which could render the essential oils less effective. All of the oils can be applied to the Vita Flex points on the feet, added to bath water mixed with YLEO’s Bath Gel Base, applied topically or used with body and foot massage. PLEASE CAREFULLY READ AND FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES FOR THE SAFE USE OF YOUNG LIVING ESSENTIAL OILS INCLUDED AT THE END OF THIS HANDOUT.

5. Direct sunlight and essential oils. Lemon, bergamot, orange, grapefruit, tangerine, White Angelica and other citrus oils may cause a rash or darker pigmentation if applied to skin exposed to direct sunlight or UV rays with 3 to 4 days of use.

6. Keep essential oils away from eye area and do not put into ears. Do not handle contact lenses or rub eyes with essential oils on fingers. Oils with high phenol content –  oregano, helichrysum, cinnamon, thyme, clove. Lemongrass, bergamot, Thieves and ImmuPower – may damage contacts and irritate eyes.

7. Pregnant women should consult their health care professional before using essential oils containing constituents with hormone-like activity, such as clary sage, sage, Idaho tansy, juniper and fennel.

8. Epileptics and those with high blood pressure should consult their health care professional before using essential oils. Avoid hyssop, fennel and Idaho tansy oils.

9. People with allergies should test a small amount of oil on a small area of sensitive skin, such as the inside of the arm, before applying the oil on other areas. The bottom of the feet is one of the safest, most effective places to use essential oils.

10. Before taking GRAS (Generally Regarded as Safe) essential oils internally, always dilute with an oil-soluble liquid like honey, olive oil or soy milk.

11. Do not add undiluted essential oils directly to bath water. Use Bath Gel Base as a dispersing agent for oils in the bath.

A little cancer with your lipstick?

Personal care products are jam-packed with petrochemicals that can very possibly have serious health effects. These are products that many women and men use on a daily basis.  It is not that we are using just one product that could be harmful, we are using many different products simultaneously.  Sadly, it seems, we are human guinea pigs.  Of the 11 types of products listed in the illustrated photo below, 5 of them have possible hormone disruptors and 3 are linked to cancer.  Other possible side effects include infertility, rashes, headaches, and irritation of skin, eyes, and lungs, to name just a few.  It’s also shocking to note that there are 250 chemicals in perfume alone.  That just does not seem reasonable to me.  Why must our products be so toxic, not only to us but to those we love?  The answer is that they don’t need to be, they are made to be that way for one reason only: cost.  It’s cheaper to use many petrochemicals in these products than to use real, natural ingredients.  As consumers, we have a choice to make.  Do we continue to support companies that produce products that not only harm us but also harm our children?  I don’t think so.  By using essential oils and essential oil-based personal care products, we don’t have to worry about doing any harm to anyone.  We can use these products knowing that they are safe and enhance our well being and those around us.

I use the Young Living essential oil blend called Joy every day.  One day I walked into a very busy business where the woman at the desk is usually grumpy, not mean, just grumpy.  As I was standing there waiting for her to sort out my concern, she asked “What is that smell?”  Her coworker mentioned that she was wearing clove but that wasn’t it.  Eventually, I held out my hand, which still smelled of Joy and asked if this was the smell.  What I remember most is the way her whole face softened.  Suddenly, she did not look so grumpy anymore, she even smiled a bit.  I’m not sure how long it lasted but it was definitely to my benefit, and to hers!  Essential oils can touch many people in many different ways.  All without toxic effect.

Why Plants Are (Usually) Better Than Drugs

YES!  Below is an amazing article by Dr. Andrew Weil from the Huffington Post.  This article explains so beautifully why essential oils, which come from plants, are often more effective than modern medicine.  Plants and essential oils contain many chemical compounds.  When drug companies take only one chemical out of a plant then make that chemical into a drug, many healing chemicals are left behind.  Not so with essential oils.  The compounds in essential oils work synergistically to heal, something that modern medicine cannot offer.  YL tests every oil to insure that the chemical make-up meets its high standard.  If the key constituents (note the plural) are not up to par, that oil does not get bottled.  Don’t get me wrong, I know that  modern medicine is a real blessing.  If I, or someone in my family, needed emergency care, I know that I would have the best treatment that the medical community has to offer and I would be very appreciative of that care.  But for most of us, our health issues are mainly chronic degenerative conditions.  And for those conditions I would reach for oils first.  Why?  Because when you have pure therapeutic grade essential oils, you have natures finest medicines.  - Francine

Why Plants Are (Usually) Better Than Drugs by Dr. Andrew Weil

I have always been fascinated by the difference between plants and the drugs that are isolated from them. This goes back to my student days at Harvard in the 1960s, where I received my undergraduate degree in botany, and then went on to medical school. It’s rare — too rare, I have to say — for botanists to become doctors. The experience gave me a unique perspective on health and medicine.

For four decades, I’ve been skeptical of a prevailing belief in Western medicine: when a plant shows bioactivity in humans, we must attribute that effect to a single, predominant compound in the plant. We label that the “active principle,” isolate it, synthesize it, and make a pharmaceutical out of it. Then, typically, we forget about the plant. We don’t study any of the other compounds in it or their complex interactions.

This belief persists for two reasons. First, it makes research much easier. Single compounds can be manufactured in pure, standardized dosages, which simplifies clinical trials. (However, technology has largely solved this problem. Modern growing and processing methods make it possible to produce standardized, complex, whole-plant-based medicines. Clinical trials of these compounds have become quite sophisticated, especially in Europe.)

Second, and this is clearly the major reason, it makes drugs far more profitable for drug companies. Isolating and synthesizing a single molecule allows a drug company to patent that molecule. Making slight chemical modifications allows further patent potential. Such exclusivity can be worth billions, whereas a whole plant offers little opportunity for profit.

Expensive as it is to the consumer, this faith in “single-agent” drugs would be acceptable if they actually yielded better results. But the fact is, the natural, whole plant often has both benefits and safety that put the isolated compounds to shame.

Medicinal plants contain a wide array of chemical compounds. At first, this looks like chaos, but more investigation reveals a distinct order. Natural selection pressures push a plant to “try out” variations on molecules to enhance the plant’s odds of surviving stressful environments. So, often, one molecule is present in the greatest amount and has the most dramatic effect in a human body — but along with it are variations of that molecule in the same plant.

For example, for several years, I did ethnobotanical study in South America, researching native uses for coca leaf, which most of us know only as the source of the isolated, problematic, addictive drug cocaine. For Andean Indians, whole coca leaf is the number one medicinal plant. They use it to treat gastrointestinal disturbances; specifically, for both diarrhea and constipation. From the perspective of Western pharmacology, this makes no sense. Cocaine stimulates the gut, it increases bowel activity, so obviously it would be a good treatment for constipation, but what could it do for diarrhea except make it worse?

However, if you look carefully at the coca leaf’s molecular array, you find 14 bioactive alkaloids, with cocaine in the greatest amount. While cocaine acts as a gut stimulant, other coca alkaloids can have precisely the opposite action, they inhibit gut activity.

This means that when you take the whole mixture into the body, the potential is there for the action to go in either direction. What decides it? The state of the body, which is a function of which receptors in the gut’s tissues are available for binding. During my time in Andean Indian communities, I collected many reports about whole coca’s paradoxical, normalizing effect on bowel function, and experienced it firsthand, as well.

Herbs like coca that can “tone” the body and bring it back to homeostasis are known as adaptogens, a term coined by Soviet physician and scientist Nikolai Lazarev in 1947. Examples include schisandra, reishi mushroom, eleutherococcus and ginseng. Asian ginseng, for example, has an array of active constituents known as ginsenosides. One of them, Rg1, can stimulate the nervous system, while another, Rb1, has been found to calm it. But even this is an oversimplification. Other constituent cofactors apparently increase the adaptogenic properties of ginseng, making the therapeutic whole more than the sum of its parts. Ultimately, this non-specific response boosts resistance to stress — whether the stress is physical exertion, infection, or some other problem.

So using whole-plant remedies is a fundamentally different — and, I would argue, often better — way to treat illness. In Western medicine, we typically give the body no choice. We use single compounds that, essentially, shove physiology in one direction.

Let me be clear — sometimes, that is very appropriate and valuable, if the body is dramatically out of balance and must get back on track very quickly. For example, during a case of anaphylactic shock, there is no time for the body’s receptors to select specific effects, so a drug such as pure epinephrine can be lifesaving.

But in many cases, particularly with the chronic, degenerative diseases of modern civilization, there is time to allow the body to participate, to choose just what it needs. As it slowly heals, it can develop a new balance; a dynamic equilibrium that helps it cope with stress in the future.

Human beings and plants have co-evolved for millions of years, so it makes perfect sense that our complex bodies would be adapted to absorb needed, beneficial compounds from complex plants and ignore the rest. This is an established fact in nutrition, but the West’s sharp distinction between food and medicine somehow blinds us to these properties when it comes to botanicals. The most successful medical philosophies make no such division — Okinawans, the world’s longest-lived people, believe that the food they eat is “nuchi gusui” which roughly translates as “medicine for life.”

So I will continue in my lifelong skepticism, and persist in my belief that plants are (usually) better than pharmaceutical drugs.

If I say strep throat, you say…….

antibiotics, right?  Isn’t that what’s normally used to treat strep?  I know from experience that by not treating strep, complications can arise so it cannot go unattended.  Recently, I was having a busy week with a busy weekend coming up.  I woke up on Thursday with a bit of a sore throat and an achy head.  Thinking that it was allergies, I used some lavender by filling capsules and ingesting them.  The lavender helped a bit with the sinus issues but my throat and head were still bothering me.  The next day it was worse and, not wanting to admit that I was sick, I tried to brush it off.  I was determined not to let this, what ever it was, ruin my plans for the weekend.  By late afternoon, I began to realize that I did not have a choice.  I had a rash, I was tired, my throat hurt, my head hurt and I had a fever.  I was sick – Ugh!  Out the window went my weekend plans and into bed I went.

Strep is a bacterial infection.  I did not know that I had strep but I knew that my oils would help.  Essential oils have strong antibacterial (and antiviral) properties so I used a combination of oils which I applied on my throat and on my head.  I also diffused various oils and ingested them.  (If you have read any of my other posts, sorry for the repeat but….. ) I only recommend using and ingesting Young Living oils.  I say this over and over because it is really important for people to know that essential oils are not created equally.  It is important to know your supplier and their manufacturing practices.  You can see my “Why choose Young Living Oils?” page for more information about the quality of Young Living oils.

Please note that I am not a medical doctor and I am not prescribing a way to cure strep.  This is just what worked for me.

Here are my golden rules when using essential oils:

  1. Use what you have.  I used what I had on hand which was thieves, frankincense, melrose, panaway and a few others.  If I had oregano I would have used that as well.
  2. More is more (at least that is my philosophy with oils).  Throw everything you can at an illness as soon as you can.  I waited a bit too long to get started.  Next time I’m showing no mercy!
Thieves is your very best friend when you are sick or when you think you might be getting sick.  This is the blend you always want to have on hand.  I gargled with thieves, I diffused it, rubbed it on my throat and I ingested it.  If you want to make your own home remedy kit, this oil should be at the top of the list.  Actually, all the oils in the Everyday Oil Kit would make the list but if I had to narrow it down to just a few, thieves would be the chosen one.  Thieves contains clove (used by the dental industry for years to numb pain), cinnamon, rosemary & lemon.  It’s a highly antiviral, antibacterial blend.  Don’t even hesitate – just get it and, this is key, USE IT.  A friend of mine has a gland issue every so often that she regularly treated with a trip to the Dr. and a prescription of antibiotics.  After learning about thieves, I gave her a bottle which she quickly put in the back of a drawer (probably thinking it would never get used).  Months later, when her glands were acting up she dug it out and used it because she didn’t want to deal with being sick.  She was in the middle of a very important project and did not have the time to go to the doctor and then wait for the antibiotics to kick in.  Much to her surprise thieves did the trick!  You can use the link to see her testimonial.
I also used frankincense to help boost my immune system.  I put a few drops of thieves and a few drops of frankincense together in a capsule with a drop of extra virgin olive oil which I took 3-4 times per day.
Melrose is also very good for sore throats.  It has melaleuca alternifolia (tea tree) and rosemary.  I gargled with melrose as well as used it on my neck.
Diffusing is really helpful when you want to make sure you don’t share what you have with other family members.  By diffusing thieves at night, I was able to inhale the oil while I slept.  Diffusing thieves also kills airborne germs.  On a side note, I love the Therapro diffuser, by far the best diffuser I have ever owned!  What’s even better is when you buy a Therapro from Young Living, you get a bottle of Thieves free – awesome!!!!!!  It is great to use a diffuser to scent your home but when you are sick or when you want to stop something before it gets bigger a diffuser is imperative.  When my kids look a bit rundown I add a bit of thieves to the diffuser and turn it on when they are watching t.v.  And if they are sick they get it in their room at night.  It always helps and it really is an important tool when using essential oils.

Of course, I got plenty of rest and drank lots of water.  I also took lots and lots of vitamin c as well as vitamin D, omega blues, Ningxia Red, and Life 5 probiotics.  The best part of having therapeutic oils on hand is that you don’t have to wait to go to a doctor in order to feel better.  When I realized I was sick early Friday evening, it was not a great time to see a doctor but I was still able to help myself start to feel better over the weekend.

Unfortunately, we can’t just run out to the store if we are sick and pick up a bottle of pure, therapeutic grade essential oil.  To find the best oils you have to go to the internet.  To find the very best, from a company  that is dedicated to quality and that has a large variety of singles and blends as well as personal care products and supplements then you have to order from Young Living.  If you wanted a good start for home remedies, my first choice would be the Everyday Oils Kit.  See my 3 part post starting with “A Natural Apothecary with Young Living Oils – Part I”.  The oils in that kit can be used for fevers, headaches, muscle pain, allergies, bug bites, bruises, burns, stress, sore throat, and as a sleep aid.  And those are just some of the uses for the oils.

Young Living May Promotions

Yay!!!  Young Living is offering a great promotion this month.  If you are not already using the Thieves cleaner now you can try it out for free!  I LOVE this cleaner.  The “normal” cleaners that you can buy in the stores have always given me headaches – even the “green” ones.  Since replacing all of my toxic cleaners with natural alternatives cleaning is a much more enjoyable endeavor.  I no longer get headaches, my house smells clean and, most importantly, I know that I have not added any unwanted toxins into my home.  I use the Thieves cleaner for everything, kitchen, bath, floors and it is the best laundry stain remover I have ever used.  It comes concentrated so just dilute to your needs.  We keep a couple of spray bottles around the house so we always have one at hand.  In addition to the Thieves cleaner I also use a combo of peroxide and baking soda when I need a scrub.  It is a great soft scrub replacement and I make it up as I need it.   I also use white vinegar and an essential oil, either lemon, orange or citrus fresh, for my windows and my dishwasher.  I have found diluting the Thieves cleaner with peroxide to be a great combo for really tough stains.  I have used it on my carpeting and was amazed at how well set in stains came out.  The Thieves cleaner is the best and safest cleaner for you and your family.  Replacing your toxic cleaners is one of the most important things you can do to really “clean” your home.

We also love the thieves spray when we get a sore throat.  My husband and I recently have put this spray to the test and we are convinced that it is a must have.  And citrus fresh is a great blend of citrus & spearmint.  It’s an uplifting, energizing clean scent.  One of my faves.

Another promotion this month is 10% off Abundance.  I don’t update my testimonials as often as I should but I do have a great one about abundance.  Here is the link.  We love this blend and both my husband and I use this one daily.

Also, click on the link below if you would like to hear a discussion about the Thieves cleaner as an alternative to store bought toxic cleaners. – Francine
